Divers Gianna Kenrick of Mater Dei and Braeden Valenzuela of San Juan Hills enter Tuesday’s CIF-SS qualifying meet for the state championship as top seeds after capturing section championships.

Kenrick became the first Mater Dei girl to claim a section title in diving by winning the Division 1 girls meet last week at the Marguerite Aquatics Complex in Mission Viejo.

The senior, who is committed to Kentucky, posted a school-record score of 576.20 to outdistance Edison junior Allison McNichols by 41.15 points.

Valenzuela posted an 11-dive score of 551.15 to capture the Division 2 boys title last week.

He became the first San Juan Hills boy to win a section title in diving.

The senior, who is committed to Columbia, outdistanced freshman Charles Bentley of Capistrano Valley by about 100 points.

The CIF-SS qualifier for the state championships is Tuesday at Mt. SAC in Walnut at 2 p.m. The top six boys and girls qualify for the state finals May 14 at Clovis West High in Fresno.
