Pasadena and Irvine residents may hear helicopters, controlled explosions and simulated weapons fire as part of U.S. military training exercises Wednesday, June 3, continuing into the overnight hours.

The exercise will take place in northeast Pasadena until 1 a.m. and in Irvine near Alton Parkway and Irvine Boulevard until midnight, city officials said on social media.
Both exercises are part of regular training the military does on an ongoing basis, said Lisa Derderian, a spokesperson for the City of Pasadena.
Derderian didn’t specify where the training was taking place, but on social media, Pasadena Councilmember Rick Cole said it was at the former St. Luke Medical Center, 2690 Washington Blvd. Pasadena police stationed around the perimeter to keep pedestrians and vehicles out, Derderian said.
Pasadena city officials said anyone with concerns during the training should call 626-744-4241.

The training in Pasadena began around 8 p.m. with helicopter activity and simulated gunfire, Derderian said. She expected another round to take place but wasn’t sure when that would take place.
“I was outraged by this,” Cole said of the training on social media. “The city was informed today and was told to not release information until 5:30 p.m. That is absurd and ridiculous and typical of the current administration’s contempt for citizens of this country.”
The trainings are not open to the public.
Kyle Oldoerp, a spokesperson for Irvine police, said as of about 8:45 p.m. that military officials were not yet in the area but were scheduled to begin their training around 8 p.m.
