ALL-COUNTY GIRLS SWIMMING TEAM 2026
GIRLS SWIMMER OF THE YEAR
Alyssa Ton, Fountain Valley, Junior
Fountain Valley swimmer Alyssa Ton believes in being versatile in the pool, and the results back her up.
From swimming different distances to different strokes, Ton likes to “hop around” to stay energized.
“It’s super fun for training and makes training a lot easier when you can swim a little bit of everything,” she said. “It also makes racing fun. I don’t have to stick to the same events all the time.”

Ton showcased her all-around capability this spring by earning All-County status in five of the eight individual events.
For her efforts, the junior is The Register’s Orange County girls swimmer of the year. She is the first Fountain Valley girl to earn the distinction since Cynthia Fascella in 2008.
“She was impressive,” Northwood coach Alex Nieto said of Ton, who is committed to the University of Tennessee.
Ton posted the fastest times in California this season in the 200 and 500-yard freestyles as she defended her titles at the CIF-SS Division 1 championships.
She claimed the 200 free for the third consecutive season by touching in a time of 1 minute, 45.15 seconds.
Ton earned her second straight crown in the 500 free with a time of 4:44.26, which outdistanced the runner-up by almost eight seconds.
She also led the county in the 100 free with a time of 49.10 at the Sunset League finals.
Ton rounds out her All-County profile with the 50 free (23.34) and 100 butterfly (54.73). She blazed those times to help the Barons beat Corona del Mar in a Sunset League dual meet.
None of Ton’s All-County times were lifetime-bests but they were close.
“Being close to it, it gives me a little confidence that I’m knocking on the door, right on a best time,” she said. “It’s all part of the process.”
Ton develops her versatility while training with the Irvine Novaquatics club under coach Nathan Wilcox, who also coaches her at Fountain Valley.
The team features distance freestylers such as Northwood’s Andrew Maksymowski (USC commit) and Long Beach Poly’s Lucas Jue (Louisville commit). The group, however, trains all four strokes and considers itself individual medley-based.
“I want to race the boys,” Ton said of the workouts. “I want to beat them.”
Ton traces her competitiveness to a background in Taekwondo. Before swimming, she competed in the martial art. She achieved a third-degree, second-tip black belt.
“I had a good aggression and confidence when fighting,” she said.
Ton began club swimming at age 10 after accepting an invitation to swim during the summer with her friend Charlotte Jepsen, who swims and plays water polo at Fountain Valley.
Ton is a member of the U.S. junior national team in the 200-meter freestyle. She is aiming to qualify this summer for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Vancouver, British Columbia.
“Alyssa is one of the hardest workers I’ve had,” Wilcox said. “What she loves more than training is racing. Every time she races, she wants to win and is determined to finish on top.”

GIRLS COACH OF THE YEAR
James Hickson, Woodbridge
In his 10th season, James Hickson guided Woodbridge to a third-place finish at the CIF State championships and a second-place finish at the CIF-SS Division 1 finals.
The Warriors highlighted their performance at state by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay for their first state title.
At the CIF-SS Division 1 finals, Woodbridge finished second to juggernaut Santa Margarita to achieve its highest podium finish since placing in 2016 in Division 1.
Woodbridge edged San Clemente 209-204 for second place.
“It’s huge,” Hickson said of finishing second in Division 1. “We knew that we didn’t have a ton of individual swims so everybody needed to step up and do what they’re capable of.”
The Warriors set school records this spring in the 200 and 400 free relays and the 50 and 100 freestyle with Isabella Parker.
Hickson’s tenure has included coaching Woodbridge’s Unified swimmers.
