On June 21, the Heritage Museum of Orange County will partner with Affirming OC to host “Remembering Our Roots: A Pride History,” highlighting the history of Orange County’s LGBTQIA+ community alongside music, local vendors and arts and crafts. The free event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3101 W. Harvard St., in Santa Ana.

“We want this to be a place to foster connection, get to know other local people in the community, and remember our friends, loved ones and icons of history,” event organizers said on social media.

On June 26, at 8 p.m., the Frida Cinema, an arthouse movie theater in the heart of Downtown Santa Ana, will host a free screening of “The Celluloid Closet,” a 1996 documentary adaptation of queer activist and film historian Vito Russo’s book and lecture series exploring LGBTQ+ representation in film.

The screening is being presented in partnership with the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives, which preserves materials documenting the history of lesbians through photographs, artwork, publications and other historical artifacts. Staff from the archives will display historical materials before and after the screening.

On June 27, Santa Ana will hold its annual Pride event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 125 N. Broadway, between Fourth Street and the Artists Village in Downtown Santa Ana.

The event is separate from OC Pride’s countywide Pride Festival and Parade, which is scheduled for October and will also take place in Santa Ana after organizers opted to move it back to the city from the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa following community feedback.

A full list of festivities and other Orange County events scheduled in honor of Pride Month can be found on OC Pride’s website at prideoc.com/events.
