A pedestrian died Wednesday afternoon in a traffic collision at the intersection of East Coast Highway and Newport Coast Drive, police said.

Newport Beach police officials said in a news release that a preliminary investigation determined that a vehicle collided with the pedestrian in the westbound lanes of Coast Highway, west of the intersection. People nearby rendered life-saving measures to the victim but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s name was not released pending notification of family members. Police were continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
