A woman was killed in a Fourth of July fireworks explosion in Chino, authorities said.

Officers initially responded to reports of a vehicle fire on the 5600 block of D Street at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Chino Police Department. A preliminary investigation indicated that “a large quantity of fireworks ignited, causing (an) explosion,” detectives said.
The blast left several people, including a child, seriously injured and set another car ablaze.
Three adults were taken to local hospitals, where a woman in her twenties later died. Police said they’re withholding her identity until her family is notified.
The remaining two adults are expected to survive, police said. The child was evaluated at a hospital and released.

Derion Tradon James Jr., 28, was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and booked into the West Valley Detention Center, police said. Details about his alleged role in the explosion were not provided.
Chino police are leading the criminal investigation, with assistance from the Ontario Fire Department Bomb Squad. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner is conducting the death investigation.
Several roadways in the area are closed as investigators and fire personnel evaluate remaining fireworks, debris, or related hazards.
