It’s not the only high-quality passing tournament Saturday in Orange County.
The Seahawk Shootout at Ocean View on Saturday has plenty of fine teams in its 32-team field for the 7-on-7 competition.
It’s 32 teams are Aliso Niguel, Calvary Chapel, Capistrano Valley Christian, Carson, Cerritos, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Downey, El Toro, Foothill, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, La Mirada, La Serna, Los Amigos, Marina, Mary Star, Northview, Northwood, Ocean View, Pacifica, Paloma Valley, San Clemente, San Pedro, San Juan Hills, Santa Fe, Segerstrom, South Gate, St. Margaret’s, Tesoro, Torrance and Cerritos Valley Christian.
Here are five storylines to follow:
1. Who wins the quarterback battle at San Juan Hills?
Preston Getz, a junior this coming school year, and senior Eiler King will rotate possessions Saturday in the race to replace last year’s starter, Timmy Herr who was All-Bravo League last season as a senior. King started several games at San Clemente last season; Getz also was in the San Clemente program for a time.
2. Brady Edmunds’ next top target?
Huntington Beach senior quarterback Edmunds, who committed to Ohio State and has all the potential to go far in the sport, was All-Orange County second team last season and an Epsilon League co-offensive player of the year. Huntington’s leading receiver last season was Troy Foster who was the Epsilon’s other offensive player of the year as a senior receiver last season when he averaged 137 receiving yards a game and caught 19 of Edmunds’ 32 touchdown passes. Arizona State commit Dylin Bruce, recruited as a defensive back, is likely to assume that role.
3. How ‘bout those Tartans?
St. Margaret’s made significant improvement last season, going 7-5 including a playoff win, and might be better this season. Tartans senior quarterback Kai Letcher will be a third-year starter this fall after throwing for 1,691 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. He has been timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.5 seconds.

4. The tournament’s likely favorite?
San Clemente. The Alpha League, which has grown from being a four-team league last season to a six-team group this coming season, is the best public-school league in Orange County and San Clemente is that league’s lone representative in this tournament. The Tritons bring back quarterback Preston Beck who took over as the starter partway through last season when he was a sophomore and was 6-1 as their starter. Senior receiver Jaxson Rex, who committed to BYU, was All-Alpha first team last year.
5. Can Calvary Chapel continue to improve?
Calvary Chapel was 10-0 in the regular season last year and quarterback Colin Wiles was the Sigma League offensive player of year as a sophomore. He threw for 1,734 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2025. Senior receiver/cornerback Jorge Brito is a two-time all-league selection.
The Seahawk Shootout starts at 8:30 a.m. Spectator admission is $5 for ages 13 and older; 12 and under are admitted free. Parking is free at all school lots.
The 32 teams are divided into eight pools. After pool play is completed the top teams are divided into four divisions – Open, Gold, Silver and Grey – for championship rounds.
Local restaurants will provide food for sale at the snack bar. Cash and electronic payments are accepted.
