The summer reading program is underway at the Anaheim Public Library branches, with opportunities for readers to win prizes. And to keep the summer fun going, there are some special events coming up.

There will be an Angels Baseball storytime from 11 a.m. to noon on July 21 at the Central Library, 500 W. Broadway.

And, the Central Library is offering an Open Art Studio at 5 p.m. on July 27. Also, children can get up close to sea life from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on July 22 at the Haskett Branch, 2650 W. Broadway.

At the Sunkist Branch, 901 S. Sunkist St., at 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through July 31, the branch is hosting free lunch, books for home libraries, games and activities for all youth up to age 18. The special days are being offered in partnership with Anaheim Family YMCA and with generously funding from the California State Library.

1972 Colonists to reunite

The 1972 Class of Anaheim High is hosting a picnic reunion on July 25 at Pearson Park in Anaheim.

Alumni will gather from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m.  There will be food trucks and lots of mixing and mingling.

Wings of Kindness has summer plans

Wings of Kindness had a new youth night program that recently welcomed 50 neighbors, children and adults to enjoy tacos, friendships and more.

Next, Wings of Kindness is also preparing for its third annual Summer Extravaganza & Backpack Giveaway on July 24.

The group is looking for sponsors, volunteers and donations of new backpacks and school supplies. Donations can be dropped off at Mondragon Family Market, 407 E. North St. Call 714-309-3607 for more information.

Sustainable landscape workshop offered

A workshop to learn about sustainable landscaping is scheduled for Aug. 8.

Learn about turf removal and turf conversion techniques, climate-appropriate plants, and more.

An old-fashioned car wash fundraiser

The Ebell Club of Anaheim is pulling out the buckets and soap to host a car wash fundraiser for the OC Family Justice Center.

Cars will be washed from 8 a.m. to noon on July 25 at 226 N. Helena St. Cost is $7 per car.

All proceeds will benefit the Justice Center’s back to school project.

Still  opportunities to hear some music

The 2026 Concerts in the Park series plays on in Anaheim.

The Concerts in the Canyon at Ronald Reagan Park has concerts coming up tonight, July 16, and July 23 and July 30.

And, then Pearson Park Amphitheatre concerts will be July 25, Aug. 1, Aug. 8, Aug. 15 and Aug. 22.

With funding help from Disneyland, the concerts are free.

The city of Anaheim’s Treepower program offers more than 40 species of shade trees — including drought-tolerant and fire-resistant varieties — to help reduce your air conditioning use and lower your electric bill.

New varieties are available and residents can receive up to six trees from the program, while supplies last. There are specialists who can help with selecting.
