Marvel Comics will move its headquarters from New York City to Burbank next July, joining Marvel Studios and corporate parent The Walt Disney Company.

The announcement was made Thursday at a town hall at Marvel’s office in Midtown Manhattan, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

“This move will position the team beside our broader creative organization and create opportunities for collaboration across both Marvel and Disney,” Marvel’s head of television, animation, comics and franchise Brad Winderbaum and David Abdo, newly installed as general manager, comics and franchise, said in a letter that was sent companywide after the town hall and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

“Bringing our comics, film, television, and other creative teams together will help us learn from one another, collaborate, and build on the strengths that make Marvel the true House of Ideas.”

Marvel Comics has been based in New York City since its founding in 1939 as Timely Comics.

Marvel also announced the hiring of Stephen Wacker as editor-in-chief, succeeding C.B. Cebulski, who will return to Japan to become the company’s editor of Asia Originals, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Wacker most recently worked at Stone Kite, the Santa Monica-based entertainment studio he co-founded in 2023. He held various positions with multiple Marvel units from 2006-22, including vice president of development for Marvel Television and vice president and head of content
