The list of restaurants, bars and cafes departing Dana Point Harbor this fall continues to grow as the harbor’s long-running redevelopment moves into its next phase.

As previously reported, Wind & Sea, the 54-year-old seafood-and-steak restaurant overlooking the marina, is expected to serve its final meal on Sept. 15 before its building is demolished. Harbor officials, however, said they remain in talks with the restaurant’s owners about a possible return in a new form once redevelopment is complete.
The remainder of the wharf dining destinations are slated to close Oct. 31. That includes Turk’s, a family-owned bar and restaurant that opened in 1984. The “Cheers”-like spot, which has a devout following of regulars, features nautical decor and vintage photographs and illustrations.
Proud Mary’s will also join Turk’s in closing on Oct. 31. Proud Mary’s, opened by its namesake founder Mary Merrill in 1977 and sold in 2005 to the Zdrakas family, was destroyed in a 2007 fire caused by a defective dryer. A few months later, it reopened.
The restaurant was known for its indoor and patio dining, as well as a “wall of fame” featuring square plates bearing the signatures of famous former guests, including the plates of former San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh; NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman; and “Real Housewives” castmates Alexis Bellino, Vicki Gunvalson and Tamra Judge.

Frisby Cellars Winiery, which opened last July, will also say farewell during the next phase of construction on Halloween. The owners invite patrons to trek nine miles to its other location in Rancho Mission Viejo. And similar to Wind & Sea, harbor officials remain in talks about a possible return following harbor completion.
The final dining option scheduled to shutter is Coco Bloom Coffee, a contemporary cafe that plans to relocate to Newport Beach at 1500 W. Balboa Boulevard this winter.
The Dana Point Harbor Certified Farmers Market will still happen on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., now found on the surface parking lot just outside of the new parking structure.
This phase of construction, called Phase 4, will effectively close off the Wharf to the public on Nov. 1.
The final spate of closures are to make way for the $600 million redevelopment of Dana Point Harbor. The locally-loved watering holes and restaurants join a handful of other former favorites that have closed over the last two years, including El Torito, Harpoon Henry’s, The Brig, Beach Harbor Pizza and Gemmell’s.
