The collision occurred around 10:42 p.m. on West 1st Street and Harbor Boulevard. Santa Ana Police Cmdr. Matthew Lemmon said investigators had not determined whether the man was in a crosswalk or outside the designated pedestrian walkway when he was struck. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and remained there Sunday morning.
The driver fled eastbound on 1st Street and has not been identified, Lemmon said. Details about the vehicle and whether alcohol or drugs were involved remain under investigation.
