Late in the meeting with San Jose, goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski committed a foul, giving the Earthquakes a late penalty attempt to possibly snatch the full three points. However, Marcinkowski saved the attempt, allowing the Galaxy to escape with a draw, halting a two-game losing skid since the restart of the regular season.
“Obviously, it was not the start we wanted,” defender John Nelson said of the two losses against LAFC and St. Louis CITY SC. “But, you know, to go on the road, good environment … it’s always tough playing that team, so to go on the road, get a result, honestly, it could have went either way. They had some chances, we had some chances. … Now we’re back at home, a good opportunity to get three points.”
The Galaxy are back home Saturday, but home hasn’t been as kind. Entering the week, the Galaxy are just 2-4-3 at home. Both losses against LAFC and St. Louis were at home.
“I think at home, we need to score first,” Nelson said. “I think if we score first, we get the crowd on our side, we get momentum. With us, it seems like at home, teams just sit back and then we can’t kind of … we can’t break their low (defensive) block and then we just give up, honestly, a soft goal and then maybe another soft goal and then it’s just kind of a domino effect.
“I think that’s just kind of how it looks like, honestly. So if we can get the first goal, get the crowd on our side, just momentum, just something, a little spark, then I think we’re fine.”
Kyōgo Furuhashi arrives
The Galaxy’s latest addition, Kyōgo Furuhashi, arrived Thursday and was scheduled to go through training Friday, making him available for Saturday.
“He is a relentless worker,” Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said last week about Furuhashi. “He will dart around the field and he is very, very smart about the spaces that he runs through and works through.

“He’s not the biggest guy and to score 80-something goals in the Scottish League, shows a capacity to get to some really good areas. I think he will benefit from being on a team like ours, who does have a fair amount of possession in many games and does move the ball around where he can link up and find time to dart through spaces.”
After Saturday, the Galaxy are off until Aug. 15, which will give Furuhashi and any new additions time to get acclimated before the late-season stretch.
Erik Thommy, João Klauss injury updates
Thommy left the LAFC game in the first half, July 17, and was seen on crutches after the game. Vanney said the midfielder will be sidelined six to eight weeks with a foot injury.
“It’s a plantar fascia injury, I don’t know the specific details, but I know it just takes time for that to heal and for him to be able to really sprint, change directions, do all those kinds of things,” Vanney said.
Klauss, who had foot surgery in April and was placed on the injured list, has recently moved his training outdoors, running and working with the training staff.
“He’s on the field, he’s doing ball work, he’s getting his running in, he looks very fit, lean,” Vanney said. “It’s really now just taking him through the steps that he needs to get through safely. I think also, with the doctors, they really believe the injury needs a certain amount of time just to really be safe and for him to come back. So we’re kind of in this space where we’re allowing the time to be the time, but also getting the things that he needs to keep moving him forward.”
Vanney added that he was optimistic that Klaus is back in full training by the middle of the month.
