Two Los Angeles County juveniles were arrested early Sunday, August 2 after leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle in San Diego County, authorities said.

The pursuit began at about 1 a.m. Sunday after a San Diego County Sheriff’s Office helicopter received a license plate reader alert for a vehicle reported stolen from the Redondo Beach area, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop on near Willows Road in the Alpine area, but the driver failed to yield and accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 mph, leading officers on a pursuit along eastbound Interstate 8.
“The vehicle exited the freeway, then re-entered and headed westbound on Interstate 8, with (the helicopter) maintaining continuous aerial tracking throughout the pursuit,” SDSO Lt. Jason Phillips said.
California Highway Patrol officers later deployed tire deflation devices near the Mollison Avenue exit in the El Cajon area.

Authorities said the driver and passenger abandoned the moving vehicle and fled on foot. The driver was arrested by CHP officers, while the passenger was taken into custody shortly afterward with assistance from the helicopter.
Both suspects were identified as juveniles from the Los Angeles area and were arrested on suspicion of evading a peace officer with willful disregard for public safety, auto theft and possession of a stolen vehicle. Their ages were not immediately available.
The stolen vehicle was recovered, and its registered owner was notified, officials said.
