Our peers at the San Diego Union-Tribune noted last week that the popular dining chain Breakfast Republic is closing three restaurants in San Diego County. But tucked within that story was the good news of the company’s expansion into Orange County.

Breakfast Republic’s parent company Rise and Shine Hospitality Group told the Union-Tribune’s Lori Weisberg that it would be opening a restaurant in early 2027 in Huntington Beach.
The eatery features decadent takes on breakfast fare. Notable dishes include the shrimp and grits, eggs Benedict combos and French toast options that use peanut butter, caramelized bananas, and toasted marshmallows and chocolate sauce into the recipes, according to Weisberg’s story.
Breakfast Republic said the closures in San Diego were mostly about falling foot traffic, high rent and overall economic performance. The company is aiming its biggest expansion efforts in Texas, where it’s building out restaurants in Austin, Dallas and Houston.
Other Breakfast Republic can be found in Costa Mesa, Irvine, Long Beach, Palm Desert, Culver City and Echo Park. New Breakfast Republic locations are coming to Palm Springs and Highland Park.

Charcuterie caterer opens in Surf City
If you love the idea of a lavish charcuterie board at your next party but are stumped as to how to bring it all together, there’s a catering company aimed your way.
Graze Craze, a charcuterie franchise, is open in Huntington Beach. It’s the third for the company in Orange County. The other locations are in Newport Mesa and Laguna Hills.
The company offers a wide variety of charcuterie — even vegetarian options — that range in price from $15 (for a single cup of charcuterie for one diner) up to a premium board that costs $275.
Rob Smith and his wife, Renee Smith own and operate the 750-square-foot store. It debuted July 27.
“We’re excited to become part of the Huntington Beach community and help people celebrate special occasions,” Rob Smith said in a statement. “With growing demand for charcuterie at events in Huntington Beach, Graze Craze is the perfect opportunity to combine our passion for food and hospitality with our entrepreneurial experience.”

Vegetarian – a board loaded with seasonal produce and house-made dips.
Sweet – a dessert-inspired spread with chocolate, cookies, fruit, and sweet dips.

Chagee expansion comes to Orange
Chagee Modern Teahouse opened Friday, July 31 at The Outlets at Orange.
It’s the 11th location in California for the chain since it launched in the U.S. a year ago. Earlier this year, Chagee opened at The Shops at Mission Viejo.
The tea shop, which offers a variety of drinks from tea lattes, matcha, straight and blended tea and refreshers, is in Suite 916, at Entry 7, near Dave & Buster’s.

Discount retailers coming to Lake Forest
Burlington Stores is opening a new store later this year at a former CVS drugstore in Lake Forest.
The bargain retailer said the store at the Hunter Court Shopping Center would be open by the fall.
Burlington has “reimagined” its retail space, expanding aisles and adding signage to help shoppers navigate the bounty of apparel, shoes, housewares and other goods sold in its large stores.
The company also is hiring for the location. Interested applicants can go to BurlingtonStores.jobs to apply online.

Coming up: Fundraisers for veterans
Tee It Up for the Troops Huntington Beach is hosting fundraising events Aug. 14-17 at the Huntington Club in Huntington Beach.
Proceeds from the nonprofit’s 15th annual golf tournament and tennis tournament, auctions and donations will go to organizations that help military veterans. They include: Fisher House, Operation Open Water, Warrior Foundation/Freedom Station, Warrior Canine Connection, Marine Raider Foundation, JAGS Gives Back, Tunnel to Towers, American Legion Post #133, and Tee It Up for the Troops.
The first event is Serve It Up for the Troops and Dink It Up for the Troops on Friday, Aug. 14 featuring match play in tennis and pickleball, plus a player party on Saturday night called Raise It Up for the Troops.
The events continue Monday, Aug. 17 with the Tee It Up for the Troops golf tournament.
Since 2012, Tee It Up for the Troops Huntington Beach says it has donated more than $4 million to these veterans’ organizations.

Din Tai Fung has an opening date: The Register’s food reporter Brock Keeling had the news last week that the popular dumpling restaurant will open this month at the Brea Mall, the fourth location in the county. The Taiwanese-born chain said it’s opening the Brea site Aug. 7 ahead of its grand opening on Aug. 31. Other Din Tai Fung restaurants in OC are at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Downtown Disney District in Anaheim and Irvine Spectrum Center. The Brea restaurant is in a new building on the property’s west side, part of a multimillion-dollar expansion at the Simon-owned retail center.
