Several of Orange County’s fastest high school swimmers from the spring helped the Irvine Novaquatics capture men’s and combined team titles at the Speedo Junior National Championships in Irvine on Friday.
Reigning Orange County boys swimmer of the year Andrew Maksymowski scored 40 individual points over the five-day meet to contribute to the Novaquatics’ men’s team title at the Woollett Aquatics Center.
All-County swimmer Sofia Szymanowski of Corona del Mar tallied 50 points as the Novaquatics’ claimed the combined title for men and women.
“We’re pumped,” said Nathan Wilcox, the Novaquatics’ coach based at Los Cab in Fountain Valley.
Maksymowski, a recent graduate of Northwood, highlighted his meet by finishing third in the 200 (1 minute, 50.80 seconds) and 400-meter (3:56.21) freestyles.
The USC commit also raced on the Novaquatics’ winning 400 and 800 free relays.
The club overcame a relay disqualification on Friday to tally 276 points, which outdistanced runner-up NASA Wildcat Aquatics of Illinois at 269.5.
The Novaquatics also received points from El Toro’s Inyoung Kim (6), Northwood’s Michael Wang (3) and Edward (12) and Eric Chen (15) of Hong Kong.
Szymanowski, a senior-to-be committed to Michigan, won the 100 breaststroke in a lifetime-best 1:09.28.
She and her sister Maddy, racing for Aquazot, placed second and seventh, respectively, in the 200 breast.
Fountain Valley’s Alyssa Ton, The Register’s girls swimmer of the year in 2026, and Calvary Chapel’s Bianca Nwaizu scored 33 and 16 points, respectively, for the Novaquatics.
