The 1970s Montezooma Revenge at Knott’s Berry Farm is back with a vengeance after a $20 million makeover that turned the aging but beloved ride into a reimagined thrill machine destined to be the first looping coaster for new generations of young riders.

Knott’s Berry Farm hosted the media on Friday, Aug. 14 for videotaped rides on the new Montezooma: The Forbidden Fortress shuttle coaster at the Buena Park theme park.

Watch as Orange County Register reporters Brady MacDonald and Bella Kim brave the 55 mph electromagnetic launch and navigate the 76-foot-tall vertical loop both forwards and backwards.

Knott’s Berry Farm transformed the 1978 Montezooma’s Revenge into a multi-launch coaster with an Aztec treasure hunter theme and a train designed to look like a mythical stone creature.
The new Montezooma: The Forbidden Fortress boasts a new coaster train, launch system, track, supports and backstory.
