Mere days after reopening following a nearly six-month closure, Oliver’s Osteria in Laguna Beach has had to close its doors again.

Chef-owner Erik De Marchi’s Emilia-Romagna restaurant reopened on Aug. 8 after being closed since February when a pair of small fires put the eatery on pause. The first occurred on Jan. 29, which was followed by another on Feb. 15 that was attributed to an unexpected electrical short. Both fires were quickly contained and no injuries were reported.
After months of repairs, inspections and permitting, Oliver’s welcomed back diners earlier this month. However, the return proved all too brief.“It is with heavy hearts that we share that Oliver’s Osteria will be temporarily closing until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control,” read a message posted to the restaurant’s Instagram.

The restaurant did not disclose what, specifically, prompted the latest closure.
“After being closed since February, our team spent months working closely with the appropriate parties to complete every required repair, permit, inspection, and approval necessary to safely reopen our doors,” continued the statement. “We followed every step of the process asked of us, and on August 8th, we were incredibly grateful to finally welcome our community back.”

The owner added that “circumstances outside of our control have required us to temporarily close once again.”
Oliver’s said it is working with property management, the city, fire officials and other parties to determine what needs to happen before the acclaimed eatery can open again. No reopening date has been announced.
“For now, Oliver’s Osteria will remain temporarily closed until further notice,” said the owners, in the same statement. “We will continue to keep our community updated and will share more information as soon as we are able.”
In the meantime, the restaurant welcomes diners to its sister venue, Oliver’s Trattoria, located in Irvine at 6511 Quail Hill Parkway.
