LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood football team dropped its season opener to Coronda del Mar 48-3 in a nonleague matchup Friday.

Lakewood quarterback Aidan Kautsky completed 4 of 14 passes for 38 yards. He threwthree interceptions. Jodan Montgomery rushed for 15 yards on six carries.
Lakewood kicker Jake Vega converted a 40-yard field goal. Terrish Weston Jr. had an interception.
Corona del Mar (1-0) built a commanding first-quarter lead as starting quarterback Luca DiNapoli completed his first six passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns, two to JJ Haley and one to Tucker Murray.
DiNapoli completed 9 of 13 passes for 210 yards and four touchdowns total. Nolan Scott led all receivers catching six passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.
The Sea Kings also added two points on a safety after a botched snap in the first quarter.
With 42 seconds left in the first quarter Corona del Mar kicker Evan Dodge converted a 32-yard field goal to up CdM’s lead to 26-0.
Vega’s kicking leg helped Lakewood (0-1) break the shutout when he converted a 40-yard field goal to cut the CdM lead to 26-3 midway through the second half.
Vega emphasized the trust he has in his teammates to help his longer kicks.
“I trust my brothers,” Vega said. “It’s all about the operation. These guys, I’ve been with them. They are just like family. I treat every single moment like it’s the last, especially because it’s my senior year.”

Weston made two big plays in the first half, first intercepting CdM backup quarterback John David Annett in the end zone to prevent a touchdown, then breaking up a deep pass to Haley to prevent his third touchdown of the game.
Weston left the game with an injury that coach Mario Morales fears might be for the longterm.
“We might have lost him for the year,” Morales said.” We have to wait and see what’s going on. He might have a possible fractured rib. We’re praying that it’s nothing too serious.”
CdM increased its lead to 32-3 in the third quarter after Scott caught a low pass from DiNapoli, side-stepped a tackle and ran along the sideline for a 42-yard touchdown reception.
Another safety on a botched Lakewood snap gifted CdM two more points for a 34-3 lead and possession with 3:35 left in the third quarter.
The Sea Kings extended their lead again with 11:53 left on a three-yard touchdown run byMurray to lead 41-3 after a Dodge extra point.
Annett capped the scoring on a 37-yard touchdown run for CdM bringing the final score of48-3 after the extra point.
