The developer got approval in July from the city for its Campo on 17th project, which will add 100 for-sale townhomes and “revitalize” 60,000 square feet of retail and commercial space.
Burnham-Ward promises to remake the center into something of a community gathering spot, with “lush landscaping, mature specimen trees, water features, soft‑seating fire pit areas and a new town green.”
The plan drew protests from some residents who watched as longtime businesses at the center shuttered ahead of the city’s approval of Campo on 17th. Word of the project spread to the community this spring as business owners started announcing imminent closures or relocations because the redevelopment will upend the scope of business as buildings are demolished or reimagined.
Just last week, AA Jewelry announced a moving sale as the boutique shifts to Old Town Tustin. Its last day at Enderle was Saturday.
Earlier this year El Torito closed, followed by The Crab Cooker, which on May 31. It had been at Enderle since 1992.
The lone holdout was Zov’s, the longtime Mediterranean restaurant which is staying through much of the construction. The Karamardian family that owns the restaurant said on social media that they were “excited to share that a brand-new transformed Zov’s restaurant experience is coming to Tustin.”
Zov’s said construction was expected to begin later this year, with plans to open their newly designed restaurant before summer 2027.
The property was owned for decades by the Rogers family trust.
Tustin Councilmember Lee Fink told the Register in June that the Enderle Center needed upgrades to both its infrastructure and its mix of offerings. “My goal since coming onto council is to see this concept through,” Fink said at the time.
Under Burnham-Ward’s direction, the center will be flanked to the south by townhomes while the existing retail space will be renovated or exchanged for new drive-through eateries in the central parking lot.
The project should be complete in late 2027, according to Burnham-Ward.
The firm, which also developed Paseo 17, the Long Beach Exchange, SoCo and the OC Mix and is working on the Dana Point Harbor project, has hired Retail Insite to handle new leases at Campo on 17th.
