Capistrano Valley christened its new stadium with a 33-23 win over Downey on Friday at Capistrano Valley High.
The Cougars trailed at halftime and entering the fourth quarter, but scored 13 unanswered points to beat Downey.
Capo Valley (2-0) opened the game with a blocked punt by Brody Saavedra that went through the back of the endzone for a safety. On the next possession, Talon Spencer threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Izaiah Bennett to give the Cougars an 8-0 lead.
Spencer and Bennett connected again in the second quarter for a long touchdown to give the Cougars a 14-8 lead. Spencer had a 2-yard touchdown run and later threw a touchdown pass to Colin Hooper. The senior quarterback ran for a touchdown in the fourth to make the score 33-23.
Capo Valley is 2-0 for the fifth consecutive season and will host Great Oak next Friday.

Yorba Linda 30, Long Beach Poly 13: Yorba Linda cruised to a win over Long Beach Poly in the final game at Veterans Stadium before it is being torn down and replaced.
Isaiah Trujillo ran for a touchdown and returned an interception for a touchdown to give Yorba Linda (2-0) a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Trujillo had two touchdown runs and Aiden Gutierrez added a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Andrew Churney made a late field goal for the Mustangs.
JSerra 63, Long Beach Wilson 0: JSerra had five touchdown runs in a blowout win over Wilson to give new head coach Hardy Nickerson his first win with the Lions.
R.J. Corley and Taeali’l Gagau each ran for two touchdowns for JSerra (1-1) and Will Fredericksen had a 78-yard touchdown run on the game’s opening possession. Hayes Cloutier threw three touchdown passes in the first half to Sam Fredericksen, Grayson Matvay and Clark Cokley.
Jack Hilgenberg threw a touchdown pass to Kai Taylor and Bo Argenal recovered two fumbles in the first quarter.
Cost Mesa 41, Estancia 7: Costa Mesa had 437 yards of offense with six touchdowns in a win over Estancia in the “Battle of the Bell” game.
The Mustangs snapped a four-game losing streak to Estancia (0-1) in the rivalry series and had lost 11 of the last 12 against the Eagles. Matthew Barrientes completed 21 of 25 passes for 269 yards with two touchdowns and ran for a score for Costa Mesa (1-1). Gavin Garza ran for 112 yards with two touchdowns and Shayan Tavakoli ran for a touchdown.
Ruben Sanchez had 81 yards receiving with a touchdown and Rex Thompkins added a touchdown reception.
Mission Viejo 77, St. Paul 12: Mission Viejo scored 70 unanswered points in the first three quarters in a rout of St. Paul.
Brett Burnor threw four touchdown passes in the first half to four different receivers. Jack Junker, Jeremy Bonhomme, Luke Karby and Baxter Middagh had touchdown catches for Mission Viejo (2-0) and Bryce Warner returned an interception for a touchdown.
Carson Vandermade ran for a long touchdown to open the game and Wyatt Boardman ran for a touchdown in the first quarter. Beckham Sharp threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score in the second half. Myles Lassiter had an interception for the Diablos who will play Folsom on the road next week.
Dana Hills 62, Tesoro 7: Dana Hills jumped to a 55-0 lead at halftime in a dominant win over Tesoro.
The Dolphins scored 9 times on just 36 offensive plays. Carter Anderson completed all 10 of his passes for 196 yards with five touchdowns for Dana Hills (2-0). Caden Marquis threw two touchdown passes and the seven team touchdown passes is a school-record.
Mason Valles had three touchdown receptions while Jack Norman and Collin Ridgley each added one. Enzo Gallo had two touchdown runs and Dana Hills had five interceptions on defense. Stephen Reda had two interceptions and Andrew Williams, Esai Rivera and Ryan Blake each added one.
Corona del Mar 37, Santa Barbara 7: Tucker Murray had a long punt return for a touchdown and a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown for Corona del Mar.
Corona del Mar (2-0) scored the first 30 points of the game. Luca DiNapoli threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to JJ Haley and Trejan Nixon ran for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Chuck Nailor made a field goal for the Sea Kings and John David Annett ran for a touchdown.

Chaparral 31, San Juan Hills 19: Luke Frith had 84 yards receiving with a touchdown for San Juan Hills in a loss to Chaparral.
Frith also had a 66-yard kick return and a 50-yard punt return. Eiler King completed 16 of 21 passes for 174 yards with a touchdown. Tyce Smith ran for a a touchdown for San Juan Hills (1-1) and Cooper Hladek had a fumble recovery.
Irvine 8, Portola 0: Irvine had three interceptions in a shutout win over Portola.
Kyle Fogarty had two interceptions for the Vaqueros and Zephaniah Jim added one. Seamus Hoffman ran for the lone touchdown of the game for Irvine (1-1) in the second quarter and ran for a two-point conversion.
Pacifica 48, Garden Grove 0: Zack Dickison had a school-record five touchdowns for Pacifica in a blowout win over Garden Grove.
Dickison had four touchdown runs and returned a fumble for a touchdown. The five touchdowns tie a previous school-record set by Josh Brannon in 2008. Michael McGuigan and Joseph Pham-Noy each ran for touchdowns for Pacifica (2-0).

Crean Lutheran 31, Mira Costa 28: Senior receiver Troy Roberts scored two touchdowns for the visiting Saints who improved to 2-0.
Braylen Ross also had a touchdown reception for Crean Lutheran. Freshman running back Eden Gamiz added a rushing touchdown.
Senior linebacker Ahmeer Williamson, a transfer from St. John Bosco, became eligible for the Mira Costa game and, according to Crean coach Rick Curtis, was a major contributor Friday.
Crean Lutheran (2-0) plays at home Friday against JSerra (1-1).
The Saints beat Loyola, 31-6, in their season opener.
Laguna Hills 24, Aliso Niguel 10: Hawks quarterback Jaxson Vanderbeek completed 10 of 16 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown and had 75 yards rushing on eight carries.
Drew Meyers ran for 121 yards on 24 carries for the Hawks.
Defensively, defensive end Jack Moorman and safety Logan Yoast had interceptions.
Laguna Hills (2-0) has a home game Friday against Capistrano Valley Christian.
Servite 42, Murrieta Valley 10: Jorden Wells scored on two running plays and Devin Brown blocked a field-goal try, recovered the ball and ran it back for a touchdown for the visiting Friars (1-1).
Benjamin Harris scored on a 13-yard reverse run and caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Gino Wang. Mataua Niumata caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Wang.
Servite plays Centennial of Arizona this coming week at La Mirada HS.
Orange Lutheran 38, Cathedral Catholic 24: Sophomore quarterback Ezrah Brown passed for 253 yards and two touchdowns as the visiting Lancers beat San Diego County’s top-ranked team.
The Lancers (1-1) outscored Cathedral Catholic by 18 points in the second half. Sophomore running back Ryan Christianson rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Brown ran for 59 yards on eight carries.
Chris Flores Jr. had six receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown, giving him 13 catches on the season. Raiden Velasquez had five receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Cathedral Catholic is No. 13 in the state according to the HSratings.com rankings that have Orange Lutheran at No. 11.
The Lancers play at Orange Coast College on Friday against Basha of Arizona.
El Modena 20, Segerstrom 6: Senior quarterback Ethan Sorenson started the scoring for the visiting Vanguards (1-0) with a 60-yard touchdown run on the team’s second play from scrimmage.
Sorenson also had a passing touchdown.
Daniel Mendez had a team-high eight tackles. Alden Sullivan, like Mendez a junior, had five tackles and Hayden Esparza had four tackles and a sack. Esparza contributed a rushing touchdown.
La Habra 35, Northview 14: Senior receiver Blake Rogers continued his hot start for the Highlanders (2-0) with three touchdown receptions from quarterback DJ Mitchell.
Rogers had three touchdown receptions in the previous week’s win over Upland.
The Highlanders’ running back tandem of senior Kevika Mata-Utia Martinez and sophomore CJ Dickerson again was effective for the La Habra offense.
Martinez, who also plays outside linebacker, played middle linebacker Friday. Senior defensive end Sonny Rodriguez also was a key defensive player for the Highlanders on Friday.
