Mater Dei ran for 271 yards with a pair of touchdowns in a 38-22 win over Valor Christian of Colorado in a football game Friday night at Santa Ana Stadium.
Junior quarterback Russell Sekona ran for a team-high 89 yards with a touchdown. Sophomores Mark Allen Jr. and Asir Nembhard ran for 71 and 61 yards, respectively.
Mater Dei (3-0) utilized three different quarterbacks in the win. Cameron Pooley led the group with 81 yards passing and two touchdowns. Freshman Paytyn Guess threw a touchdown pass and had a 15-yard run. Gavin Honore had two touchdown receptions for the Monarchs.
Dartmouth commit Ezekiel Su’a added an interception for Mater Dei, which will host Centennial on Friday, Sept. 11. Centennial beat Mater Dei twice last season, including in the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals.
In other games Friday:
Folsom 35, Mission Viejo 21: Mission Viejo couldn’t overcome an early 21-point deficit in a road loss to Folsom.
The Diablos trailed by 21 points twice in the game and cut Folsom’s lead to seven points in the fourth quarter. Carson Vandermade and Wyatt Boardman had rushing touchdowns for Mission Viejo (2-1) and Brett Burnor threw a touchdown pass to Jeremy Bonhomme. Jojo Reed had a fumble recovery for Mission Viejo’s defense.
Mission Viejo beat Folsom 53-14 last season.
Santa Margarita 55 Highland 7: Santa Margarita scored the first 48 points of the game in a rout of Highland at Saddleback College.
The Eagles’ defense had 17 tackles for a loss with four sacks. Kingston Jimmerson had three tackles for a loss with a sack and freshman Detavian Miller had a team-high six tackles.
Fletch Palmer completed 11 of 14 passes for 126 yards with two touchdowns for Santa Margarita (3-0). Kiyan Callis and Ryan Clark had touchdown receptions while Grant Van Raaphorst led the receivers with 91 yards. Adrian Petero and Noah Grande each had two touchdown runs and Luca Amaya added one.
Huntington Beach 31, Long Beach Wilson 6: Brady Edmunds threw four touchdown passes for Huntington Beach in a road win.
North Carolina commit Skylar Robinson led Huntington Beach (3-0) with 102 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Nathan Santillian and Kye Crump also had touchdown catches for Huntington Beach, which led 31-0 at halftime.
Xavier Atkinson had 12 tackles for the Oilers and Dylin Bruce blocked a field goal.
Orange 40, Elsinore 9: Star Thomas III threw for 416 yards with three touchdowns and added a touchdown run for Orange.
Three different Orange (3-0) receivers had over 100 yards receiving. KJ Woodbury caught nine passes for 186 yards with a touchdown. Dylan Stone had 105 yards with a touchdown and Tylen Taylor had 100 yards with a score.
Isaac Harrison had 10 tackles with a sack for the Panthers. Sebastian Castro and Alexander Gourdine each had interceptions.
Fountain Valley 27, Marina 21 (OT): Isaac Combs threw a game-winning 7-yard touchdown pass to Raymond Dillon Jr. in overtime on the final play.
Combs threw for 266 yards with four touchdowns for Fountain Valley (2-1). Dillon Jr. had 90 yards receiving with two touchdown receptions.
Ben Ramos ran for 117 yards with two touchdowns for Marina (0-3) and Carson Hunnicutt had 122 yards receiving with a touchdown.
Centennial (Arizona) 22, Servite 14: Servite led in the third quarter but fell to Centennial of Arizona at La Mirada High.

Jorden Wells returned a punt for a touchdown and ran for a 77-yard touchdown for Servite (1-2). Kaleb Aiava had an interception and a sack for the Friars and Allen Kennett V added a sack.
El Modena 35, Tesoro 13: Ethan Sorenson threw for 223 yards with two touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns for El Modena.
Jason Ramos led El Modena (2-0) in rushing with 80 yards on four carries with two touchdowns. Thomas Sheehan caught three passes for 87 yards with a score and Hayden Esparza added 63 yards rushing with a score.
Jayden Hansen threw for 223 yards with two touchdowns for Tesoro (0-3). Owen Stirrat had 105 yards receiving with a score.
Irvine 36, Woodbridge 24: Will Walters and Seamus Hoffman each had two touchdowns for Irvine in a home win.
Hoffman ran for over 140 yards on 16 carries for Irvine (2-1) and caught a touchdown pass from Ronin Scheinblum. Walters caught a touchdown pass from William Bowman and returned an interception for a touchdown. Fountain Valley’s two wins are the most it has had since 2023.
Waylon Stone threw for 339 yards with a touchdown pass and two touchdown runs for Woodbridge (0-3). Ryan Dumont, Lupas Viau and Ayden Boochee led the Warriors in receiving.
St. Margaret’s 35, St. Anthony 7: Kai Letcher threw two touchdown passes to Jack Kleinhanzl for St. Margaret’s in a blowout win.
Graham Holcomb had an interception and a 20-yard touchdown run for St. Margaret’s (2-0). Sam Orellana had a 28-yard touchdown run and Charlie Allen returned an interception 97 yards for a touchdown. St. Margaret’s blocked a punt through the back of the endzone for a safety in the first quarter.
In the Tango League:
La Quinta 29, Godinez 28: La Quinta had a successful two-point conversion by Lelan Latu in the final minutes of the game to win its first Tango League game.
Isley Latu threw threw touchdown passes to Chris Vasquez and Ryan Lu for La Quinta (2-0, 1-0). Khristian Heredia ran for 100 yards with a touchdown run.
Adrian Ramirez ran for over 180 yards with three touchdowns for Godinez (0-3, 0-1).

Cypress 21, Eisenhower 14: The Centurions improved to 3-0 as Mekaih Felix had four receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown and Jaiden Anthony returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.
Defensively Garrison Manzanarez had 10 tackles including three tackles for loss and a sack.
Cypress plays Torrance (2-1) at Western High on Friday.
Yorba Linda 27, El Dorado 0: Noah Trujillo connected with Taj Lagraffe on a touchdown pass and Connor Mackay on an option play threw a touchdown pass to Aaron Burrell for the 3-0 Mustangs.
Aiden Gutierrez and Isaiah Trujillo had rushing touchdowns for Yorba Linda.
Yorba Linda plays neighborhood rival Esperanza on Friday at Yorba Linda High.
Troy 28, Fullerton 14: Mason Mays completed 14 of his 15 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown for the Warriors (1-1) at Fullerton High.
Andrew Green had five receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown and contributed eight tackles from his safety position. Riley Billington rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns.
Troy plays another city opponent Sunny Hills on Friday at Fullerton High.
Portola 35, University 13: Mason Mapstone ran for one touchdown and added a touchdown reception for the Bulldogs (2-1).
Linebacker Carter Nguyen had 11 solo tackles. Gavin Morrell rushed for two touchdowns for Portola which plays Beckman at Tustin High on Friday.
