San Clemente had a big game on both sides of the ball in a 31-21 win over La Costa Canyon on Friday night at La Costa Canyon High.
La Costa Canyon is the No. 4-ranked team in San Diego. San Clemente is 4-0 for the first time since 2023.
Preston Beck completed 22 of 33 passes for 295 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 31 yards. Ryan Matheson caught nine passes for 158 yards with two touchdowns. Sophomore Charlie Bunker led the Tritons in rushing with 47 yards and a touchdown.
BYU commit Jaxson Rex had 12 tackles with an interception to lead the defense. Payton Proffitt had two sacks for the Tritons, who have a bye next week before wrapping nonleague play against Murrieta Valley on Sep. 25.

Servite 69, St. Paul 14: Servite led by 49 points at halftime in a blowout win over St. Paul at Orange Coast College.
Jorden Wells had three touchdown runs for Servite (2-2). Gino Wang threw two touchdown passes to Taua Niamata and one to Kamil Pelovello. Benjamin Harris returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and Parker Covin added a touchdown run.
Keston Jiles had an interception for the Friars and Viliami Poe returned an interception for a touchdown.
Aliso Niguel 35, Western 19: Aliso Niguel got its first win under coach Fred Gambrell with a strong defensive performance.
The Wolverines (1-3) forced five turnovers with four interceptions and had a safety against Western (0-4). Tate Fettig had two interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. Mavreric Russell and Jamison Wilkes also had interceptions and Wilkes recovered a fumble.
Capistrano Valley 59, Millikan 14: Capistrano Valley ran for 237 yards and threw for 209 yards in a win over Millikan.
Talon Spencer threw for 171 yards with two touchdowns for Capo Valley (4-0) and ran for two touchdowns. Zadyn Hall and Easton Turner each ran for touchdowns. Spencer threw touchdown passes to Colin Hooper and Cartyr Quartucy and Matt Paikoff threw a touchdown pass to Quartucy.
Hooper forced a fumble with a sack that Brady Hassett recovered and returned for a touchdown. Brody Saavedra had an interception and Maverick Anderson added a field goal.
Northwood 42, Woodbridge 6: LJ Ulmer ran for over 150 yards with three touchdowns in Northwood’s dominant win over Woodbridge.
Caden Jacobs threw three touchdown passes for Northwood (3-1), two of them to Elliot Kwon. Pearson Giglio had a touchdown catch and over 100 yards receiving.
Keyasunn Stinson had a long touchdown run for Woodbridge (0-4).
Rancho Alamitos 20, Garden Grove 14 (OT): Osvaldo Ramos ran for a game-winning touchdown on the final play in overtime for Rancho Alamitos (3-0).
Ramos had 164 yards and scored all three touchdowns for the Vaqueros. He ran for two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Jacob Molina. It was the first time Rancho Alamitos beat crosstown foe Garden Grove since 2011.
Manny Martinez had a 47-yard touchdown run for Garden Grove (0-4) and Calvin Keovphan threw a touchdown pass to Nathan Garcia to tie the game in the final minute of regulation.
Ocean View 42, Linfield Christian 28: Trevor Vaivao ran for 168 yards with two rushing touchdowns in Ocean View’s win over Linfield Christian.
Vaivao also threw for 66 yards with a touchdown pass to freshman Kye Swancy. Zack Zentgraf ran for 62 yards on five carries for Ocean View (3-1). Tristan Ramirez and Gregory Gates added rushing touchdowns for the Seahawks who ran for 349 yards as a team.

Elijah Stokley and Daniel Barajas had interceptions for Ocean View, who has won three consecutive games.
Troy 42, Sunny Hills 0: Troy ran for 388 yards with four touchdowns in a rout of Sunny Hills.
Riley Billington ran for 217 yards with two touchdowns for Troy (2-1). Quarterback Mason Mays threw for 108 yards with two touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown. Noah Tapia and Andrew Green had receiving touchdowns and Francisco Ramirez ran for a touchdown on his lone carry of the game.
Segerstrom 42, Arlington 12: Segerstrom had 11 sacks in a home win over Arlington of Riverside.
Noah Martinez threw four touchdown passes for Segerstrom (2-2). Adrian Cervantes had three touchdown catches and Eddie Anuu had a touchdown reception.
Calvary Chapel 14, Estancia 13: Joel Brito threw a game-winning touchdown pass to Jack Haney in the final minute of the game for Calvary Chapel.
Elliot Dien had a rushing touchdown in the first quarter for Calvary Chapel (2-2).
Kai Bargas threw two touchdown passes for Estancia (0-3).

La Habra 29, Mira Costa 24: DJ Mitchell threw a touchdown pass to Blake Rogers to open a 22-10 lead for the Highlanders (4-0).
La Habra ended the game by running out the clock to seal the road victory.
The Highlanders led the Mustangs (0-4) 23-10 going to the fourth quarter.
Cypress 21, Torrance 19: Peter Batsaras kicked a 28-yard field goal in the fourth quarter as the Centurions (4-0) held off Torrance (2-2), the No. 6 team in the Daily Breeze rankings.
The senior’s boot extended Cypress’ lead to 21-13.
Batsaras, ranked as Orange County’s top specialist entering the season, kicked a 22-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Justin Hall completed 23 of 26 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns for Cypress.
Matt Rodriguez and Xavier Guerrero combined for 13 receptions and played defense.
San Juan Hills 67, St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy 0: Eiler King completed 9 of 10 passes for 157 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Stallions (3-1).
Luth Frith and Cooper Chila each caught two touchdowns for San Juan Hills.
The Stallions led 45-0 at halftime.
Dana Hills 35, Long Beach Wilson 10: Junior Enzo Gallo rushed 24 times for 169 yards and three touchdowns — all season-highs — for the Dolphins (4-0).
Carter Anderson completed 11 of 18 passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
Micah Bowen caught both scores. He finished with five catches for 63 yards.
Dana Hills led 21-10 going into the fourth quarter.
Noah Carter recorded three sacks and Esai Rivera added two interceptions to anchor the Dolphins’ defense.
Yorba Linda 42, Esperanza 7: Safety Andrew Maldanado and lineman Matias Girgis led the defense as the Mustangs (4-0) opened a 35-0 advantage at halftime.
The Mustangs started sophomore Andrew Churney at quarterback.
Esperanza dropped to 2-2.
Marina 66, Cerritos 54: Ben Ramos rushed for 184 yards and five touchdowns on 27 carries as the Vikings (1-3) notched their first victory.
Lucas Delgado added 105 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Marina quarterback Mavericks Coverick had six carries for 60 yards and one touchdown. He completed 11 for 13 passes for 188 yards.
Kris Garcia returned an interception for a touchdown for Marina.
Portola 14, Beckman 10: Orion Suttle threw a 10-yard touchdown to Mason Mapstone and Gavin Morrell rushed for a score to help lead the Bulldogs (3-1).
