JW Marriott and Aimbridge Hospitality are updating the Dana Point property, which has been rebranded The Ocean Cliffs at Dana Point, a JW Marriott Resort.
Hospitality design firms HKS and ROAM will give the nearly 40-year-old resort a contemporary aesthetic that strives to maintain Dana Point’s history of surf culture and painted cottages in its historic Lantern District.
The renovation work will update the 371-room resort’s overall design, expand communal spaces and improve amenities to match JW Marriott’s aesthetic, according to the company.
Enlarging and enhancing amenities are central to the renovation. JW Marriott said it’s adding a “destination-style” resort pool. Also new: a 6,000-square-foot ballroom, an expanded event lawn, a refreshed entry and a restaurant updated to include a signature chef.
““For nearly 40 years, this storied property has stood as a beacon overlooking Dana Point Harbor, calling both locals home and visitors to our shores to experience the quintessential Southern California coastal lifestyle,” said Ben Ly, the general manager of newly renamed resort.
The hotel will remain open during the renovations, which are expected to wrap up by early 2027, according to JW Marriott.

Property documents provided by PropertyShark.com indicate the seller was Redwood City-based Dollinger Properties, which bought Fairway Center II in 2019 for $33.5 million.
CBRE represented the seller in the transaction.
“Fairway Center II attracted significant interest amongst the investment and owner/user community alike,” said Anthony DeLorenzo, vice chairman at CBRE. “We received multiple competitive offers from a variety of buyer profiles and awarded the property to a private investor within the first 30 days of marketing.”
The property also has 617 parking spaces.
CBRE’s research team says north Orange County “continues to outperform the broader Orange County office market, supported by limited new construction, strong transportation connectivity and steady demand for well-located low-rise office properties.”
