HUNTINGTON BEACH — San Juan Hills’ longest scoring drive in its Alpha League game against Edison on Friday night was seven plays on its first possession.

The Mustangs’ other three touchdowns came on drives of one play, two plays and one play in a 28-20 victory over the Chargers at Huntington Beach High.
The top three teams in the Alpha League — San Juan Hills (6-1, 2-0), Mission Viejo and San Clemente — all won in Week 7 and are in a three-way tie for first place.
San Juan Hills, ranked No. 12 in Orange County, scored on its first four possessions and took a two-touchdown lead into the half.
No. 18 Edison (2-5, 0-2) shut out San Juan Hills in the second half, but the Mustangs’ defense also made big stops, including a goal-line stand in the fourth quarter that ended with an interception on fourth down by Arthur Tuverson.
“Even when we jumped out to that nice lead, I still knew we were playing a good team,” Mustangs coach Robert Frith said. “You just want to eliminate mistakes in those situations and stay focused, and even in our attempt to do that, they still came back because they are good.”
Mustangs quarterback Eiler King and receiver Luke Frith continued to galvanize their bond after connecting for three touchdowns in a 61-10 victory over Los Alamitos in Week 6.
Against the Chargers, King hit Frith for a 25-yard touchdown, giving the Mustangs a 7-0 lead.

On a first-and-10 from the San Juan Hills 26, King threw a perfect deep pass to a wide-open Frith for a 75-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0.
“We knew we wanted to come out swinging fast,” Frith said. “We kind of lollygagged them a little bit with running hitches and stuff. Then we ran a double-move and the quarterback threw a great ball. I ran under it and just like that, a touchdown right away.”
The Mustangs started their next drive at the Edison 10, and on a second-and-goal from the 7, Jack Smith ran for a three-yard touchdown, making the score 21-0.
Samuel Edminston, Edison’s big, bruising running back, got the Chargers on the board to get within two touchdowns at the half.
In the third and fourth quarters, both teams came up empty on long drives.
San Juan Hills faced a fourth-and-1 from the Edison 5 when a high snap resulted in a sack for an 18-yard loss.
Edison took over on its own 23 and drove 75 yards to the Mustangs’ 2.
Edmisten was stopped for no gain on first down and lost a yard on second down.
A penalty on the Mustangs put the ball at the 1 for third down.
The Chargers tried to throw for a touchdown, but quarterback Sean Thomson was sacked for a 10-yard loss, and Tuverson came up with the interception on the next play, practically ripping the ball from the hands of the receiver.
“They had to throw it,” Tuverson said. “We were man on man, so I knew they were going to take a shot. I just turned my head and made a play. I just found the ball.”
