Irvine city leaders in 2024 created Great Park Live, a temporary amphitheater intended to preserve the city as a destination for major performances after the FivePoint Amphitheater’s abrupt closure in 2023. The venue, nestled in the Great Park Sports Complex, is also the summer home of the Pacific Symphony.

Irvine-based PSQ Productions has been operating the venue since its inception; in 2024, the city entered into a three-year contract not to exceed $6.6 million with the venue management company and last year, extended the agreement’s lifespan.

But as of a recent council decision, PSQ Productions’ stay at the Great Park could run until 2030, or at least until the city finishes the permanent amphitheater under construction in the park.

During a March Great Park Board meeting, the council, with Councilmember Kathleen Treseder opposed, asked the city manager to pursue negotiations with PSQ Productions and return to the dais at a later date with an agreement for consideration.

“We are able to do everything from festivals, concerts, cultural celebrations, food festivals, car shows,” PSQ Productions Founder and CEO Mark Entner said. “It’s a wonderful place to be.”

This year, Great Park Live upped its capacity by 2,500 to now accommodate up to 10,000 guests for standing admission shows (the amphitheater opened with the capacity for 5,000 people) and multistage music festivals.

The 2026 entertainment season kicked off with a Feb. 7 Lunar New Year’s parade and festival, and continues through October with a lineup including Wynonna Judd and Melissa Etheridge, Lee Brice, tribute acts and family-friendly events.
