On Wednesday, May 13, four new pickleball courts were unveiled at Laguna Niguel Regional Park. The new courts were created by converting an already existing tennis court. Eight other pickleball courts and two tennis courts have also been newly resurfaced — bringing the total number of pickleball courts in the park to 12.

“These new and improved courts reflect our commitment to recreational spaces that bring people together, encourage an active lifestyle for residents and increase use of our regional parks and green spaces,” said Supervisor Katrina Foley, who attended the ribbon-cutting.
The park — the only county park with pickleball courts — was selected for the conversion after a countywide study examining pickleball opportunities at OC park facilities. The Laguna Niguel park was picked because the existing pickleball courts, opened in 2018, have proven popular, said Danielle Kennedy, a county spokesperson. Surveys collected from park visitors also showed a strong preference for more pickleball courts.

The county is also in the design phase for new pickleball courts at Yorba Regional Park in Anaheim and converting an existing tennis court into four pickleball courts at Clark Regional Park in Buena Park.
Work on the $78,000 project started on April 6 and was completed this week.
OC Parks has managed the 227-acre park since 1973. Besides the court sport opportunities, other recreational activities available there include a 44-acre lake, ample turf space, a playground, a two-mile jogging trail, bike trails, sand volleyball courts and a model glider area.
Laguna Niguel Regional Park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the spring and summer, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the fall and winter. Parking is $3 per vehicle on weekdays, and $5 per vehicle on weekends. Courts cannot be reserved.
