Watch out for Sunny Hills freshman Jansen Baek at the CIF-SS boys golf individual finals Thursday at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard.
Baek captured the CIF Central individual regional with a 5-under-par 67 last week at Bear Valley Country Club in Victorville to emerge as a contender for the section title.
Baek carded six birdies en route to edge Mater Dei’s Brayden Jones by one shot in the qualifying event for the section individual finals.
Sunny Hills’ Felipe Jikal and Cole Kim, Santa Margarita freshman Dylan Zhang and Mater Dei’s Gianni Floriani shot 1-under-par 71 to advance.

In the Southern regional, Anaheim Discovery Christian’s Keita Yobiko placed second with a 3-under-par 69 at Skylinks Golf Club in Long Beach.
Long Beach Wilson freshman John Schroeder won with a 68.
Los Alamitos’ Brandan Bae carded a 70 to join the golfers who finished under par. The group at 71 included Beckman’s Jake Chen, Edison’s Will Crinella, Portola’s Charith Chintam, Corona del Mar’s Matthew Hull and Steven Yang and Anaheim Discovery Christian’s Peter Oh.
The Top 20 golfers from each regional advanced to the individual finals.
River Ridge Golf Club will also serve as the qualifier for the SCGA SoCal Regional.
On Monday and Tuesday, the CIF-SS division finals take the spotlight.
On Tuesday, Sunny Hills will compete in Division 1 at El Dorado Park Golf Course with Santa Margarita and Servite among others.
