The cafe in the tasting room even offers two sizes of charcuterie boards to nibble on as you venture into amateur sommelier territory.

If you are looking to really bond over a boozy education experience, classes are available for wine tasting paired with cheese, and for spirit tasting. If you’re looking for a less alcohol-centered class, olive oil and dairy classes are also available in the tasting room.

Tickets for classes can be purchased online and start at $15 for the olive oil and dairy classes and $30 for the wine and spirit classes. Class schedules can be found online.

After you have finished up at the tasting room, you can wander your way toward the seemingly endless food options. Whether you’re craving something crispy and fried, smoky and barbecue, or even international, there are plenty of options to satisfy any palate.

Some standout food options for a date night with portions large enough to share are Kenyan Food from Rafikiz Food, located near the grandstand; New Orleans-style favorites from Harold and Bells Shack, located by The Glade; and a lobster-baked potato from the Lobster Shack, also located near The Glade.

Eaten enough and looking for some entertainment? Catch one of the last few concerts at the fair, such as Common Kings and ZAPP featuring Tuxedo. Concert tickets can be purchased online or at the box office located at the yellow gate.

If you’re aiming for a more hands-on activity, check out the free roller skating in Expo Hall 7 with the Skate-R-Kade. Skates and rink access are included with fair admission. Also located in Expo Hall 7 is Retro Row, an immersive homage to the 80s and 90s with photo opportunities and even a mock video rental store.

You can make more than just memories on your date at the fair; you can also make pottery! Located in the Millard Sheet Art Center is Clay Play, a drop-in pottery class that runs during the fair. For $10, you and your date can make custom and unique pieces to mark the occasion. Classes run from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

End your night with a romantic Ferris wheel ride or dance it up at the silent disco located over in The Glade.

Operating days and hours

The fair runs until May 31, Thursday through Sunday, and Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Fairplex is a cashless venue, and some food and sales vendors may also be cashless as well.
