The famous Huntington Beach Pier was illuminated in red, white and blue during a special event to celebrate America’s forthcoming 250th birthday.

People filled Pier Plaza as city officials unveiled commemorative “Huntington Beach America 250” banners Thursday night,. The patriotic festivities, organized by a city celebration committee and Visit Huntington Beach, included a cannon salute from the Naval Historical Education Foundation, a musket firing demonstration from the California Sons of the American Revolution and a youth reflection from Boy Scout Troop 1.
Ramsey Brothers Band performed hits, as many in the crowd danced with mini semiquincentennial flags.

Mayor Casey McKeon, who delivered a speech at the event, said the pier will be illuminated for multiple nights leading up to July 4.
