The season continues, though, for Huntington Beach next week. The Oilers have been selected to be in the CIF Southern California Regional playoffs.
Division 1’s four semifinalists are eligible for the SoCal Regional. Three of the four semifinalists – Harvard-Westlake, Norco and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame – declined the Regional invitation (Division 1 semifinalist St. John Bosco accepted). That created openings for CIF-SS representation in the Regional playoffs, one that was extended to Huntington Beach which accepted it.

Regional playoff brackets will be announced Sunday. The first round of the three-round Regional is Tuesday. It will be two weeks between Huntington Beach’s loss to La Mirada and the first round of the Regional playoffs.
Cypress and Orange Lutheran went further in the Division 1 playoffs than did Huntington Beach. Cypress and Orange Lutheran advanced to the quarterfinals, and both lost there. Cypress and Orange Lutheran opted out of being a candidate for the SoCal Regional.
