A Laguna Beach estate is back on the market for just under $14 million.
Known as the “Sea Castle,” this 1939 English Tudor-style compound spans 5,756 square feet across a main house, poolside guest quarters and a separate guest house for a total of seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms. It initially hit the market for $16.5 million in March 2025, dropping its asking price to $14.95 million before settling at $13.995 million a year later.

The property encompasses a half-acre-plus bluff overlooking Thousand Steps Beach with a pool, spa and multiple viewing terraces, offering coastal views as far west as Catalina Island.
According to listing agent Meital Taub of Livel Real Estate, “It is one of the few properties in Laguna Beach with ownership of the sand, offering a private beachfront.”
Records viewed at PropertyShark solidify that claim, describing the parcel’s legal boundaries to the ordinary high tide line. They also show the oceanfront estate has been in the same family since April 1999, when Lona Ingwerson purchased it for $2.7 million.
Remembered as a prominent Christian Science practitioner and the long-running emcee for the Laguna Beach Community Concert Band, she renovated the home alongside her husband, Donald, an award-winning education reformer recognized as an early proponent of computers in the classroom who retired as Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools after three years in the role in 1997. Over the years, the late couple reportedly hosted more than 50 weddings for friends and family on their section of sand, directly below their main house.
With its stone-clad turret entry, wave-patterned roof and diamond-paned windows, it recalls a castle on the outside.

Inside, a two-story brick fireplace with a heavy timber mantle anchors the living room, which has stone floors. It opens to an oversized deck that gives the illusion of floating above the water and is also accessible from the formal dining room and kitchen, which has a wet bar.
A floating staircase ascends to the primary suite, which includes a private ocean-view deck, a corner fireplace, two bathrooms and a walk-in closet.
Other amenities include a family room and a large loft-style office.
The attached guest quarters have a private entrance off the pool terrace while the standalone guest house spans 1,485 square feet. It offers three bedrooms, a den and ocean-view patios.
An oversized five-car garage with ample storage and a circular drive able to accommodate another four cars round out the offerings of this estate, located near dining, art galleries and the Montage Laguna Beach.
