With Gio Reyna and Joe Scally in the team, the United States might just find out.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=10289\">USC baseball looks to rebound in College Station Regional<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reyna and Scally are old friends who\u2019ve had a blast playing together this season at German club Borussia Moenchengladbach and both made the U.S. roster for the World Cup this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe chemistry\u2019s there and it will always be there,\u201d Reyna said this month in a joint media availability with Scally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re already close, but it feels like we\u2019ve gotten even closer, which felt impossible, but it\u2019s been a good year together,\u201d Reyna said.<\/p>\n<p>He added his wife is friends with Scally\u2019s fiancee and even their dogs are buddies.<\/p>\n<p>Reyna told the Associated Press last year his friend was the \u201ccherry on top\u201d in his decision to join Gladbach to revive his career this season after injuries and a controversial time at the 2022 World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Scally argues their bond brings on-field benefits.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cOn the training field, in the locker room, in the car rides every day, I think we\u2019ve definitely enjoyed every day because we know it doesn\u2019t last forever,\u201d Scally said. \u201cI think we understand each other very well on the field. We want to play together more than we have. In the time that we do play together, something good normally comes out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=10287\">Preview: CIF-SS softball championships, Northwood, Mission Viejo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-olds were youth players together at New York City FC a decade ago and have both made their names in Europe but the on-field similarities end there.<\/p>\n<p>Scally is a versatile, reliable defender who rarely misses a game. Reyna\u2019s a creative, unpredictable attacking midfielder who can make a sudden impact in games but has been repeatedly sidelined with fitness and injury issues for large parts of the last few seasons.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the second World Cup appearance for Scally and Reyna and follows a dispute which overshadowed Reyna\u2019s time with the team in Qatar in 2022.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Reyna played only twice off the bench and then-U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter said after the tournament that an unnamed player, later identified as Reyna, was nearly sent home for a lack of effort in training.<\/p>\n<p>Reyna\u2019s parents \u2014 Claudio and Danielle Reyna, both former national team players \u2014 lobbied the U.S. Soccer Federation for more playing time for Gio and contacted the USSF about a three-decades-old domestic violence allegation involving Berhalter and the woman who later became his wife \u2014 Danielle\u2019s former college roommate.<\/p>\n<p>Reyna told the AP last year he\u2019d now handle the 2022 incident differently \u201cin certain ways\u201d and his actions stemmed from frustration, but the dispute wasn\u2019t \u201ccompletely\u201d his fault or that of his family.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=10285\">Calling for \u2018new approach,\u2019 CBS\u2019s Bari Weiss replaces executive producer at \u201960 Minutes\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>AP World Cup: https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/fifa-world-cup<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How far can the power of friendship get you at the World Cup?
