{"id":11764,"date":"2026-06-03T07:01:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T07:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=11764"},"modified":"2026-06-03T07:01:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T07:01:19","slug":"short-handed-sparks-cant-keep-up-with-aja-wilson-aces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=11764","title":{"rendered":"Short-handed Sparks can\u2019t keep up with A\u2019ja Wilson, Aces"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>LOS ANGELES \u2014 Rae Burrell scored a career-high 22 points and Nneka Ogwumike added 12 points with 12 rebounds, but the cold-shooting Sparks had no answer for four-time WNBA MVP A\u2019ja Wilson in a 79-69 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson had 25 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Aces (6-3), while the Sparks (4-5) shot a season-worst 30.8% from the field and dropped to 1-2 without Kelsey Plum, who sprained her right ankle during a practice last week.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=11763\">Shohei Ohtani helps Dodgers to early lead in victory over Diamondbacks<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prior to Tuesday\u2019s matchup, Sparks coach Lynne Roberts said Plum, who leads the team with averages of 26.8 points and 6.3 assists per game, was \u201cdoing well\u201d but is listed as \u201cday-to-day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jackie Young added 16 points and nine assists, and former Spark Chelsea Gray added 12 points and 11 assists for the Aces, who shot 45% in a game that served as the Commissioner\u2019s Cup opener for both teams.<\/p>\n<p>The Sparks trailed just 14-10 despite shooting 23.1% in the first quarter, but Las Vegas went on an 11-point run that included a Wilson 3-pointer to open a 28-14 lead early in the second quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Moments later, the Sparks returned the favor with a 10-point run that started with a 3-pointer from Ariel Atkins get within 31-26 with just over three minutes left before halftime.<\/p>\n<p>The Aces held a 37-30 lead at the intermission while holding the Sparks to 29% shooting, and the visitors maintained control for most of the second half, using a 14-4 run to open a 57-42 lead in the third quarter. Neither team scored again until Wilson converted a three-point play with 1:40 left for a 10-point lead. A Gray 3-pointer and a NaLyssa Smith jumper with 41 seconds left secured the victory for the Aces, whose 79 points marked their lowest total this season.<\/p>\n<p>The Sparks had a 14-point advantage at the free-throw line \u2013 going 23 for 27 compared to 9 for 16 for the Aces \u2013 to help offset the shooting disparity from the field.
