{"id":11916,"date":"2026-06-03T19:02:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T19:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=11916"},"modified":"2026-06-03T19:02:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T19:02:11","slug":"owner-of-newport-coast-mansion-accused-of-improperly-supplying-iran-with-u-s-equipment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=11916","title":{"rendered":"Owner of Newport Coast mansion accused of improperly supplying Iran with U.S. equipment"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A Newport Coast resident with U.S. and Iranian citizenship who runs a technology company was arrested Wednesday, June 3 by federal law enforcement after prosecutors accused him of violated U.S. sanctions against Iran by smuggling sensitive computer equipment into that country, using proceeds to build his mansion.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=11914\">Portugal and Austria defeat Germany for seats on the UN Security Council<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jamshid Ghomi \u2014 the founder, owner and CEO of Tehran-based Faraz Pardaz Rayaneh Co., a computer-networking company \u2014 has been charged with conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, according to a U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office statement.<\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors allege that for more than a decade Ghomi, now 63, used his company to evade sanctions by purchasing equipment from suppliers in the United States, routing it through a United Arab Emirates-based front company and then smuggling it into Iran.<\/p>\n<p>To export that equipment into Iran legally, Ghomi would have needed a license from the U.S. Department of Treasury\u2019s Office of Foreign Assets Control, authorization prosecutors say he never received.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s arrest reflects our commitment to disrupt the illegal flow of American technology to foreign nations, especially our adversaries,\u201d Darren Lian, acting special agent in charge of the IRS Criminal Investigation\u2019s Los Angeles Field Office, said in a statement. \u201cAs alleged, Mr. Ghomi spent years exploiting United States\u2019 financial systems and procurement channels to move controlled equipment to Iran while hiding his activities behind front companies and falsified documentation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From 2014 to 2018 alone, prosecutors allege, Ghomi is accused of smuggling more than 250 metric tons of networking equipment into Iran. His company\u2019s annual sales topped $10 million, prosecutors say. A metric ton is 10% more than a standard ton.<\/p>\n<p>Among the clients were hundreds of Iranian companies and government entities, prosecutors allege, including \u201ca relatively small but significant portion of that business (for) the Iranian regime\u2019s nuclear and military establishment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=11912\">Latest Luigi Mangione hearing shrouded in secrecy as judge shuts out press and public<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors say Ghomi laundered the proceeds of the allegedly illegal business into the United States, moving $15 million from Iran into his U.S. bank accounts and a construction escrow account he controlled. He falsely reported the money to the IRS as a \u201cforeign inheritance,\u201d prosecutors allege.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>After Ghomi purchased a vacant lot on the Newport Coast for nearly $4.5 million in 2010, he is accused of using more than $10 million in the allegedly illicit funds to build a mansion.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, prosecutors say, Ghomi was reporting nearly no actual income on his tax returns, and in seven different years claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit, a tax break for low-to-moderate income workers and families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGhomi is accused of aiding our declared enemies by selling U.S.-origin computer networking parts to Iran and earning millions of dollars in violation of U.S. sanction laws,\u201d First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said in a statement. \u201cOur nation\u2019s laws prohibiting doing business with one of the world\u2019s largest state sponsors of terrorism must be enforced and obeyed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will hold him accountable by seeking an appropriate prison sentence and by seizing his assets, including his $35 million Newport Beach mansion,\u201d Essayli said.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>If convicted as charged, Ghomi faces up to 20 years in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=11910\">Dutch court allows rapper Ye concerts in the Netherlands<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prosecutors allege Jamshid Ghomi used proceeds from sanctions-busting sales to pay for construction of his mansion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":11915,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[43,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-11916","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-based-on-facts-either-observed-and-verified-directly-by-the-reporter-or-reported-and-verified-from-knowledgeable-sources","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
