LOS ANGELES \u2014 First baseman Nolan Schanuel returned to the Angels\u2019 lineup on Saturday, but he\u2019s still not all the way back.<\/p>\n

Schanuel, who was out with left ankle inflammation, acknowledged that he was \u201csuper sore\u201d after playing a full game at Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday night. He said he\u2019s able to run \u201cabout 85%.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if he\u2019s concerned that he\u2019s going to make it worse by playing again, he said: \u201cI haven\u2019t really thought about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schanuel said he wants to play because he can.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m definitely doing a lot better,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen I went on the IL, it was hard to walk around.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schanuel hurt his ankle in early April, and he played through some discomfort until it finally got too much to bear in late May. He was only out for two weeks.<\/p>\n

Manager Kurt Suzuki said on Saturday that the Angels can accept if he\u2019s less than 100%.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think a lot of guys are dealing with stuff now,\u201d Suzuki said. \u201cI think the biggest thing was he said he felt good enough to come back and play and he wanted to come back and play. We\u2019re a better team, for sure, with Nolan.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

Suzuki said they might give him some days off.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere might be times we have to take care of it a little bit, but I think for the most part, it\u2019s going to be up to Shanny how he feels and if he needs a day,\u201d Suzuki said. \u201cIt\u2019s communication. We\u2019ll see where he\u2019s at every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

SOLER TO IL<\/h4>\n

The Angels placed designated hitter Jorge Soler on the injured list with a left oblique strain. The move opened a roster spot for Schanuel.<\/p>\n

Soler has had various issues with his groin, side and oblique for the past few weeks.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe got it tested and they said it\u2019s not as bad, which is good,\u201d Suzuki said. \u201cWe\u2019ll evaluate it after a couple weeks and see where we\u2019re at. Those are tricky. Obliques are tricky. You never know. Sometimes they\u2019re minor and all of the sudden they just show up again.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Soler is out, the Angels have the DH spot open for other players. Suzuki said it would be \u201ca revolving door.\u201d He said outfielders Mike Trout and Jo Adell and Schanuel could get some time at DH.<\/p>\n

GRISSOM OUT<\/h4>\n

Infielder Vaughn Grissom was still out with tightness in his left side, which cropped up before Friday\u2019s game. On Saturday, he said he felt \u201cbetter than yesterday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grissom said he\u2019s never had anything like this before, so he had no idea how serious it might be. He did add that he\u2019s not concerned it could land him on the injured list, though.<\/p>\n

NOTES<\/h4>\n

The Angels had to make a couple roster moves to prevent minor league outfielder Gustavo Campero from exercising an out in his contract. They added Campero to the 40-man roster and placed him on the major league injured list. He fractured his right hand about a week ago. To open a spot for Campero on the 40-man roster, they designated catcher Omar Martinez for assignment. ..<\/p>\n

Double-A right-hander Joel Hurtado pitched seven scoreless innings on Friday night. Hurtado has an 0.89 ERA in his last five starts, with 28 strikeouts and three walks.<\/p>\n
