A man was struck and killed while crossing Alton Parkway in a crosswalk in Irvine Wednesday night, June 10, and police were searching for a dark-colored vehicle and its driver.<\/p>\n

The crash occurred just before 8:55 p.m. at Alton and Irvine Center Drive, police said in a statement, just west of the 5 Freeway and near the Irvine Spectrum.<\/p>\n

The driver was headed westbound on Alton Parkway when the vehicle collided with the pedestrian, who was walking northbound.<\/p>\n

It was unclear if the driver or the pedestrian was crossing the intersection on a red light.<\/p>\n

Police asked for the public\u2019s help in finding the fleeing driver or the vehicle, which \u201clikely has damage to the front,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

Investigators were not sure of the type of vehicle involved, said Officer Ziggy Azarcon, a police spokesperson.<\/p>\n

Irvine Center Drive and Alton Parkway are both six-lane roads, each with two dedicated left-turn lanes and one dedicated right-turn lane on all four sides of the intersection.<\/p>\n

The man was not identified by police pending notification of his relatives.<\/p>\n

A witness was able to provide a description of the vehicle. Police asked that anyone with information about the collision to contact Detective Hank Gallegos at 949-724-7024.<\/p>\n
