OMAHA, Neb. \u2014 Owen Hull had a triple and two doubles among his four hits, Gavin Gallaher had four hits and four RBIs and North Carolina rolled past West Virginia, 12-7, on Wednesday to advance to the College World Series finals for the first time since 2007.<\/p>\n

The Tar Heels (53-12-1) went 3-0 in bracket play and will play for their first national championship in baseball starting Saturday in the best-of-three finals against Oklahoma.<\/p>\n

West Virginia (47-17) was 2-2 in its first CWS appearance with both losses to the Tar Heels.<\/p>\n

A North Carolina offense that batted .217 with just four extra-base hits in its first two CWS games went into overdrive against the Mountaineers. UNC was 8 for 10 with runners in scoring position, had five extra-base hits and amassed its most runs and hits (16) in nine NCAA Tournament games.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were joking before the game today, like, \u2018Man, we need to have one of those games where we get 15 hits and score some runs,\u2019\u201d Tar Heels coach Scott Forbes said. \u201cSo thankfully that happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hull was a home run shy of becoming the second player in three days to hit for the cycle. Texas\u2019 Adrian Rodriguez did it Monday against Alabama. Hull had an RBI double in the first inning, a single in the third, RBI double in the fourth and a triple in the sixth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first thing that Coach told us in our pregame meeting out in the outfield was that we want our compete factor at the top,\u201d Hull said. \u201cThat\u2019s what we focused on, and being default aggressive. I think it worked out pretty well.\u201d<\/p>\n

UNC scored twice in the first inning off Chansen Cole (10-2) and Cooper Nicholson\u2019s two-run triple put the Tar Heels ahead 5-1 in the third. They extended the cushion to 12-1 before the Mountaineers began whittling into the lead.<\/p>\n

Carolina starter Folger Boaz labored through a 28-pitch first inning, giving up two singles and a walk, and he didn\u2019t come out for the second. Jackson Rose (5-0) pitched 4\u2153 innings of shutout relief and gave the ball to Matthew Matthijs with a nine-run lead.<\/p>\n

West Virginia scored five runs on five hits and two walks in the seventh, all with two outs, and pulled within 12-6 when catcher Colin Hynek had a pitch by new reliever Caden Glauber get past him. Gavin Kelly homered in the eighth, his second of the CWS and 19th of the season, to make it a five-run game.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never want to go down,\u201d Mountaineers coach Steve Sabins said. \u201cIf you\u2019re going to go down, for me, being down 12-1 and scratching and clawing and fighting and running out of gas and giving literally everything that you have left in the tank to compete is poetic for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Forbes said he went into the game prepared to pull out all of the stops to win Wednesday even if it meant sending ace starter Jason DeCaro to the mound in relief. That wasn\u2019t necessary, though West Virginia continued to be relentless even when it was down double digits.<\/p>\n

Forbes was pitching coach on the 2006 and \u201907 Carolina teams that went to the finals, and he said experience has taught him there is great value in having two days\u2019 rest instead of one before the finals.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re playing in the national championship, and I\u2019m excited for these guys,\u201d Forbes said. \u201cI\u2019ll just keep jumping on their backs and watch them when we start playing on Saturday.\u201d<\/p>\n

WALK, HARRIS POWER SOONERS<\/h4>\n

Jason Walk and Dasan Harris each hit two home runs and Trey Gambill also went deep to lead Oklahoma to an 11-4 victory over Georgia on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

The Sooners (41-22) are in the finals for the first time since 2022 and will be playing for a third national title in baseball.<\/p>\n

Oklahoma\u2019s five homers were a season high and a continuation of the heater the Sooners have been on since the second week of May. The Sooners have hit 43 of their 91 homers in the past 16 games, including 26 in 10 NCAA Tournament games. They had 48 in their first 47 games.<\/p>\n

Walk and Harris were improbable power sources. Each entered the game with four homers.<\/p>\n

Walk sent a wind-aided flyball 417 feet over the wall in straightaway center field leading off the third inning. In the fourth, Gambill and Harris went deep to make it 4-0 and chase Georgia starter Paul Farley (8-2). Harris and Walk connected again in the eighth to give the Sooners a six-run lead.<\/p>\n

Harris\u2019 five RBIs were his most in 107 career games, and three of his six homers have come in the last four games.<\/p>\n

Oklahoma freshman starter Nick Wesloski (2-1) held the Bulldogs (53-14) to one run in the first five innings but ran into trouble in the sixth and was pulled with two outs and two men on base. An error loaded the bases, and reliever LJ Mercurius walked in two runs. Mercurius earned his fourth save after allowing one run on two hits in 3\u2153 innings.<\/p>\n

Georgia had one of the nation\u2019s most potent offenses all season but struggled at the cavernous Charles Schwab Field.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs arrived at the CWS leading the nation with a program-record 174 homers and was in the top five with 9.4 runs per game and a .326 batting average. They got a ninth-inning homer from Kolby Branch to finish with five in four CWS games. They averaged four runs per game and batted .183.<\/p>\n

Daniel Jackson, who won the Dick Howser Trophy as the national player of the year, batted .157 with a home run Monday that gave him 32 for the year.<\/p>\n
