This year\u2019s Fourth of July community celebration in the Hills is slated to be another fun-filled family event and you won\u2019t want to miss any of it.<\/p>\n

The day begins with the Firecracker 5K\/10K Run and Walk at 7 a.m., with the route starting from Canyon High School\u2019s lower field and proceeding down Santa Ana Canyon Road, ending at the Festival Shopping Center. The always popular Yankee Doodle Dog Show starts at 9 a.m., at Canyon High School. Enter your dog to be part of the patriotic dog show or just go and enjoy the show.<\/p>\n

Then the Fourth of July parade starts at 1 p.m. from Canyon High School, continuing along Santa Ana Canyon Road to Fairmont Boulevard. Join friends and neighbors along the route. Entertainment and food booths open at 3 p.m. at Peralta Park with yet another spectacular fireworks show at 9 p.m.<\/p>\n

Dance the evening away at Ronald Reagan Park<\/h4>\n

Get ready for an evening of rock and roll when the Concerts in the Canyon series kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on July 9 at Ronald Reagan Park, featuring a high-energy Bruno Mars tribute band.<\/p>\n

This all-family community event is free to attend and those planning to join in the fun evening should bring along a lounge chair or blanket. Gourmet food trucks will be on site offering a variety of food items for purchase or attendees can bring their own picnic dinner.<\/p>\n

Other concerts on the schedule include: Classic rock from the Tijuana Dogs on July 16; modern country hits from the Young Guns band on July 23; and dance hits from Disco to Today with the Dance Dance Evolution on July 30.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s Connection gets patriotic<\/h4>\n

A patriotic celebration honoring the country\u2019s 250th year is planned for July 13 at the Black Gold Golf Club. This special event is hosted by the Anaheim, Orange and Villa Park Women\u2019s Connection and all women in the community are invited.<\/p>\n

Doors open at 10:30 a.m. for socializing and shopping with on-site vendors and the luncheon and program follow at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon program showcases a presentation on America, featuring Gary Beard portraying George Washington. Julie Fullerton will provide the musical entertainment and guest speaker Angela Timmons Montgomery asks, \u201cWho\u2019s the Greatest?\u201d<\/p>\n

Cost to attend is $35 per person and the reservation deadline is June 29. Contact Barbi Zipperian at 714-280-9062 for reservations and\/or additional information. Enjoy this special day that includes hostess gifts and door prizes and much more. Guests are encouraged to wear a favorite patriotic outfit.<\/p>\n

See a play, help raise some money<\/h4>\n

Save the date for the Woman\u2019s Club of Orange\u2019s special presentation of \u201cLook What Fell Out De Mango Tree\u201d at 3 p.m. on Aug. 16\u00a0 at the organization\u2019s clubhouse in Orange.<\/p>\n

At the fundraising event, enjoy the newest play from Jamaican-born actress-playwright Debra Ehrhardt, who fuses humor, heartbreak and revelation into her storyline. This compelling story, inspired by Ehrhardt\u2019s own life, explores the complicated love between parents and children, and how an unspoken or secretive family history affects personal choices and relationships built as adults. Incorporating laughter, vulnerability and a powerful narrative, it takes the audience on a journey from confusion to clarity and from hurt to forgiveness.<\/p>\n

In addition to Ehrhardt, the play also stars actor Christopher Grossett, a Juilliard School graduate who has performed in plays on New York\u2019s Lincoln Center stage and at the Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles. This performance is directed by renowned Grammy and Oscar-winning songwriter Paul Williams.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $30 per person and the purchase deadline is Aug. 9. This show is recommended for audiences ages 16 and older due to mature themes.<\/p>\n

Proceeds from this fundraiser will help WCO support local charities, some of which include Friends of Orange Library, Child Creativity Lab, OC Family Justice Center, scholarships and Patriots and Paws. For tickets or additional information, visit womanscluboforange.org.<\/p>\n

Baseball and reading mix at the library<\/h4>\n

Get ready for fun and excitement when the Angels Baseball and Chick-fil-A come to the Canyon Hills Library branch for a special program from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, June 26.<\/p>\n

Kids and families are encouraged to visit the library branch and enjoy a baseball story time and meet one of the Angel Baseball players. There will also be cool giveaways.<\/p>\n
