Not much<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Schweinsteiger made\u00a0the comments\u00a0on German broadcaster ARD before Germany played Ivory Coast last weekend, when he spoke about what the German players could expect from their opponents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA bit African football, a bit unorthodox, a bit wild, a bit perhaps also not so conditioned by tactics. We have to be prepared for it to be unpredictable,\u201d Schweinsteiger said.<\/p>\n<p>Fa\u00e9 led Ivory Coast into the World Cup knockout round for the first time in national team history with a\u00a02-0 win\u00a0over Cura\u00e7ao on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Fa\u00e9 said after the win he hoped Schweinsteiger had made a \u201cclumsy statement that\u2019s not necessarily reflective of what\u2019s in his life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=18060\">World Cup: Australia secures knockout spot with scoreless draw; Paraguay also likely to advance<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe could call it racist, if we were calling a spade a spade,\u201d Fa\u00e9 said.<\/p>\n<p>Schweinsteiger\u2019s comments were criticized earlier this week as playing into racist stereotypes.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Sports commentator Patrick Schnitzler wrote on\u00a0Instagram\u00a0of \u201cracist prejudices that we are all passing on unnoticed,\u201d and journalist Philipp Awounou, who\u2019s Black, wrote in\u00a0Der Spiegel\u00a0magazine that the characterizations played on old racist tropes rooted in colonialism. Awounou said he did not think Schweinsteiger is racist.<\/p>\n<p>Fa\u00e9 said the West African team uses smarts and strategy to win just as much as physical toughness to advance this far in the World Cup. He questioned if Schweinsteiger was trying \u201cto create a buzz\u201d in his broadcast career by leaning on outdated racial tropes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I heard his comment, I was disappointed,\u201d Fa\u00e9 said. \u201cDisappointed in the man.
