{"id":19470,"date":"2026-07-02T06:02:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T06:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=19470"},"modified":"2026-07-02T06:02:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T06:02:43","slug":"dodgers-scratch-mookie-betts-from-lineup-but-expect-him-back-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=19470","title":{"rendered":"Dodgers scratch Mookie Betts from lineup but expect him back Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>WEST SACRAMENTO \u2014 Mookie Betts got an unscheduled day off Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers shortstop was scratched from the starting lineup against the A\u2019s with a sore right wrist, but Manager Dave Roberts said the issue is not considered serious.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=19468\">Dodgers\u2019 offense wastes early opportunities in loss to A\u2019s<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think more just get ahead of it, don\u2019t have an incident on how it happened, but he said with treatment he felt better, felt a lot of relief,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cSo our expectation is tomorrow he\u2019ll be back in there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roberts said he was told about Betts\u2019 discomfort early Wednesday afternoon and put him in the lineup with the hope that treatment would get Betts ready to play. The decision to scratch him was precautionary, Roberts said.<\/p>\n<p>Hitting below .200 as late as June 13, Betts has turned his season around in the past few weeks by going 19 for 51 (.373) over his past 12 games.<\/p>\n<h4>NOT YET<\/h4>\n<p>Roberts confirmed Wednesday that neither catcher Will Smith nor utility man Kik\u00e9 Hernandez will be back on the active roster before the mid-July All-Star break.<\/p>\n<p>The news is not surprising for Hernandez, who has been out since May 26 with an oblique injury. But the lack of progress in Smith\u2019s neck injury continues to be worrisome. Smith has been out since June 5 with what he described as \u201can inflamed disc\u201d but downplayed as something that happens every now and then and usually goes away in a day or two.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=19466\">Ducks kick off free agency with modest moves<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It hasn\u2019t gone away despite Smith receiving injections.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s certainly longer, I know, than all of us expected. But I don\u2019t think it\u2019s anything real, kind of affecting-the-season type thing,\u201d Roberts said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there\u2019s some restriction as far as kind of the lateral (movement), when he does kind of try to ramp it up. It\u2019s still some soreness, maybe a little bit of pain. So we just haven\u2019t been able to get to the next step to push the baseball activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Right-handed reliever Evan Phillips, however, is nearing the end of his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City and could be activated soon.
