LOS ANGELES \u2014 The Dodgers have acquired a former big-league starter from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers are sending a minor-league outfielder to the Diamondbacks in exchange for outfielder Alek Thomas. The 26-year-old Thomas was a regular in the Diamondbacks outfield three of the past four years (he was limited to 39 games by a hamstring injury in 2024).<\/p>\n

Thomas was designated for assignment last week when the Diamondbacks decided to promote top prospect Ryan Waldschmidt. Thomas was hitting .181 at the time. In parts of five big-league seasons, he has hit .230 with a .634 OPS but is valued for his defense in center field and speed. He has options and is expected to report to Triple-A Oklahoma City.<\/p>\n

In exchange for Thomas, the Dodgers sent outfielder Jose Requena to the Diamondbacks. The 17-year-old Requena was signed as an international free agent out of Venezuela in January and has yet to play a professional game.<\/p>\n

In order to clear a spot on their 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment. Siani, 26, was hitting .225 in 29 games for OKC this season and has major-league experience with the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals.<\/p>\n
