{"id":6043,"date":"2026-05-14T04:03:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T04:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=6043"},"modified":"2026-05-14T04:03:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T04:03:18","slug":"former-western-football-standout-ramzi-al-shurman-dies-in-plane-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=6043","title":{"rendered":"Former Western football standout Ramzi Al-Shurman dies in plane crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><em>Support our high school sports coverage by becoming a digital subscriber.\u00a0Subscribe now<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=6041\">Survivors of plane crash off Florida were on a life raft for hours with no idea if help was coming<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Former Western all-league football player Ramzi Al-Shurman died in a reported small plane crash in Kern County on May 7, his father Ali Al-Shurman confirmed Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Shurman, 28, was reportedly one of two people who died in the crash, which caused a brush fire.<\/p>\n<p>The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) stated Wednesday that it is investigating the crash of a Cessna 182 on May 7 in Ridgecrest, an area surrounded by four mountain ranges in Kern County.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Shurman resided in Anaheim and was married with three children, his father said.<\/p>\n<p>A GoFundMe has been established to help the family.<\/p>\n<p>At Western, Al-Shurman played wide receiver and defensive back. As a senior in 2015, he earned first-team All-Empire League honors and was nominated to play in the Orange County all-star football game.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Shurman played football at Golden West College in 2018 before transferring to NAIA Doane University in Nebraska.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=6039\">Allegiant Air and Sun Country complete merger, creating larger budget airline for travelers<\/a><\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cRamzi was an outstanding player and leader not only on the field but off the field,\u201d said Western football coach Dan Davidson, who coached Al-Shurman as a junior and senior. \u201cHowever, my greatest memory of Ramzi is the amazing husband, father and his walk of faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way he pursued his dreams of wanting to be a pilot is the way he attacked life,\u201d the coach added. \u201cAlways all in and not allowing anything to interfere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Al-Shurman and his wife Nadeen were high school sweethearts at Western, Ali Al-Shurman said.<\/p>\n<p>The father added that Al-Shurman\u2019s sister Amira graduated from Western and his brother Waseem attends the school.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cHe loved football,\u201d Ali Al-Shurman said of Ramzi. \u201cHe loved playing football. He loved watching football.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A preliminary report from the NTSB is expected within 30 days of crash.
