{"id":7621,"date":"2026-05-18T22:02:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T22:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=7621"},"modified":"2026-05-18T22:02:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T22:02:09","slug":"trump-touts-a-major-trumprx-expansion-adding-more-than-600-generic-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=7621","title":{"rendered":"Trump touts a major TrumpRx expansion, adding more than 600 generic drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>By ALI SWENSON<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump on Monday announced more than 600 generic medications will be added to the government\u2019s\u00a0discounted-drug website TrumpRx, dramatically increasing offerings in one of the Republican administration\u2019s key initiatives to help Americans struggling with high costs.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=7619\">Fullerton baseball knocks off San Juan Hills in first round of playoffs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The expansion is made possible by partnerships with other online pharmacies, including Amazon Pharmacy, GoodRx and billionaire investor Mark Cuban\u2019s Cost Plus Drugs, Trump said at an event at the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2019This has been the greatest breakthrough in lowering health care costs in modern history, but we\u2019re just sort of getting started,\u201d Trump said, calling TrumpRx the \u201chottest thing in medicine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The beefed-up offerings are the Trump administration\u2019s answer to criticism from Democrats who have called TrumpRx performative and noted that many of the brand-name drugs it first featured were cheaper with insurance or had lower-cost generic versions sold elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>They also mark an effort to respond to a top voter concern for November\u2019s midterm elections: affordability. Health costs are a top worry for many Americans, an issue compounded by the Republican-led Congress\u2019 recent cuts to Medicaid and the\u00a0expiration\u00a0of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies this year that sent some people\u2019s premiums skyrocketing.<\/p>\n<p>TrumpRx is not a platform for buying medications. Instead, it\u2019s set up as a facilitator, pointing Americans to drugmakers\u2019 direct-to-consumer websites, where they can make purchases. It also provides coupons to use at pharmacies. The site initially launched in February with over 40 medications, including weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy.<\/p>\n<p>Even with generics added, experts said the potential savings heavily depend on a patient\u2019s situation. For the vast majority of Americans who have health insurance, using that coverage to pay for medications is still usually a better deal than paying cash through TrumpRx, said Rena Conti, a professor at Boston University\u2019s Questrom School of Business.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=7617\">Interesting rematches included in CIF-SS baseball playoffs schedule<\/a><\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>People who are uninsured or have a high deductible to meet, on the other hand, might benefit more from discounts on sites like TrumpRx, she said. She noted the addition of generics would likely provide more options for those shopping the website.<\/p>\n<p>Cuban, a political independent, publicly campaigned for Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. But he has enthusiastically advocated for TrumpRx and the work that some in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services are doing to make prescription drugs cheaper.<\/p>\n<p>Before Monday, Cuban had said the one thing Trump could do to make the government\u2019s version better would be to add the drugs available on his own site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone wants me to rip on TrumpRx,\u201d Cuban wrote in a recent social media post. \u201cReality is, it\u2019s saving patients money on IVF and a few other drugs.
