{"id":8541,"date":"2026-05-21T20:01:46","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T20:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=8541"},"modified":"2026-05-21T20:01:46","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T20:01:46","slug":"mexico-will-discuss-drug-trafficking-and-migrant-deaths-during-visit-by-us-security-official-mullin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=8541","title":{"rendered":"Mexico will discuss drug trafficking and migrant deaths during visit by US security official Mullin"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>By FABIOLA S\u00c1NCHEZ<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MEXICO CITY (AP) \u2014 President Claudia Sheinbaum said Thursday that she hopes to strengthen bilateral security cooperation during U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin\u2019s visit to Mexico, including on issues of combating drug trafficking, migrant smuggling and arms trafficking, and to facilitate intelligence sharing.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=8539\">Indictment of former Cuban president includes 5 fighter jet pilots involved in 1996 plane downings<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mullin arrives in the capital for a two-day visit following tensions in recent weeks over the deaths of two CIA agents at Mexico\u2019s northern border and U.S. drug trafficking indictments against 10 Mexican officials.<\/p>\n<p>Sheinbaum\u2019s administration, which took office in October 2024, has toed a fine line with the Trump administration as it has emphasized bilateral cooperation, while also maintaining Mexico\u2019s sovereignty in the face of threats of U.S. military intervention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we want is for us to continue working within the framework of that (security) understanding,\u201d Sheinbaum said at her morning news conference, referring to past dialogues with the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>Mullin, who assumed the position in March after Kristi Noem\u2019s departure, is also scheduled to meet with Mexico\u2019s Security Cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>Sheinbaum said Thursday that she would also speak with Mullin about the 15 Mexican migrants who have died in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention centers since 2025, which prompted diplomatic protests from her government. Sheinbaum has instructed consulates to make daily visits to the detention centers, and Mexico announced in March that it would bring the cases before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=8537\">Santa Ana\u2019s Cesar Chavez High to be renamed in honor of Dolores Huerta<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Mexican president ruled out discussing the cases of the 10 indicted officials, some of whom belong to the governing Morena party, during her meeting with Mullin.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In late April, the New York Attorney General\u2019s office indicted Sinaloa Gov.
