{"id":9344,"date":"2026-05-26T18:31:43","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T18:31:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=9344"},"modified":"2026-05-26T18:31:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T18:31:43","slug":"supreme-court-sides-with-trump-in-dispute-over-immigration-judges-speech-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=9344","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court sides with Trump in dispute over immigration judges\u2019 speech restrictions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>By LINDSAY WHITEHURST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The Supreme Court on Tuesday sided with President Donald Trump\u2019s administration in a lawsuit over speech restrictions for immigration judges that touched on the rights of federal workers.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=9342\">Classes resume, businesses reopen as large chunk of evacuation zone is cleared in Garden Grove hazmat threat<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The justices overturned a lower-court ruling that had allowed the case to proceed and raised questions about whether a complaint system for federal employees is still working as intended after the Republican president fired some of its top officials.<\/p>\n<p>Immigration judges are federal employees, despite their titles, and had wanted to sue over a policy restricting their public speeches that started in Trump\u2019s first term in office and continued under President Joe Biden\u2019s Democratic administration. The judges argued it was a free speech issue that belongs in federal court.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration disagreed, saying the judges must instead take their dispute to the complaint system for federal employees overseen by the Merit Systems Protection Board.<\/p>\n<p>The court ruled on procedural grounds, but Justice Clarence Thomas, joined by Justice Amy Coney Barrett, wrote to rebuke the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for responding to \u201cpolitical controversies of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=9334\">Trump administration proposes NDAs for federal employees to stop leaks<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s decision comes as the court weighs another lawsuit about Trump\u2019s power to fire heads of independent agencies.
