{"id":9906,"date":"2026-05-27T22:01:48","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T22:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=9906"},"modified":"2026-05-27T22:01:48","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T22:01:48","slug":"new-york-and-new-jersey-are-investigating-fifas-ticket-practices-as-world-cup-prices-soar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=9906","title":{"rendered":"New York and New Jersey are investigating FIFA\u2019s ticket practices as World Cup prices soar"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 FIFA is under fresh scrutiny for sky-high World Cup ticket prices and sales tactics that fans say left them with worse deals than they wanted.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=9904\">Orange County Soccer Club highlights visit to Santa Ana Stadium with win over Oakland<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The attorneys general in New York and New Jersey, which is hosting eight World Cup matches including the final, announced Tuesday that they are investigating whether FIFA\u2019s ticketing practices violated consumer protection laws.<\/p>\n<p>They have sent subpoenas to soccer\u2019s global governing body demanding information on a range of ticketing issues, including FIFA\u2019s use of \u201cvariable pricing\u201d models that sent ticket prices soaring for most matches and redrawn stadium maps that fans say relocated their seats far from the pitch.<\/p>\n<p>The attorneys general, working with the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, said they are focused primarily on ticketing practices for matches at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew Yorkers have been waiting years for the World Cup to come to their backyard, and they deserve a fair shot at affordable tickets,\u201d New York Attorney General Letitia James said. \u201cNo one should be manipulated into paying sky-high prices for seats, and fans should be able to trust that the tickets they purchase will be the ones they receive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconvalleymovingpost.com\/?p=9902\">Orange County boys athlete of the week: Gianni Floriani, Mater Dei<\/a><\/p>\n<p>New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport accused FIFA of turning the act of buying a World Cup ticket \u201cinto a gauntlet of confusion, fake scarcity, and impossibly high prices.\u201d It\u2019s an honor for New Jersey to host the World Cup, she said, \u201cbut the event is not an invitation to exploit our residents and visitors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FIFA declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>The World Cup kicks off June 11 with matches in Mexico City and Guadalajara, Mexico.
