The Queen Mary, one of Long Beach\u2019s most iconic landmarks, marked 90 years since its maiden voyage with a daylong celebration and ceremonial rechristening on Wednesday, May 27.<\/p>

Thousands of locals and visitors stepped aboard the iconic ship to celebrate on the exact date the legendary ocean liner first set sail in 1936. As part of the ship\u2019s ongoing, yearlong anniversary programming, the free event offered a lineup of experiences for guests that honored the Queen Mary\u2019s legacy, while also bringing new life to the iconic vessel.<\/p>\n

Among the visitors on Wednesday was Gayane Hovhannisyan, 35, from Los Angeles. While she has been to the Queen Mary before, she said, she hadn\u2019t experienced the ship to such an extent as the 90th celebration offered guests.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 90th anniversary, it\u2019s an incredible, incredible experience,\u201d Hovhannisyan said. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of events planned out. We just went to the engine room, which was incredible. My mom was absolutely terrified, but it\u2019s just amazing being (here) and learning about the history of the Queen Mary and how things were in the past, and getting to see exhibits.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think anyone who was able to be here today got to experience something that\u2019s magical.\u201d<\/p>\n
