This year’s Battle At The Beach is Saturday, July 11. It is an 18-team tournament that is grouped into four pools. The Battle At The Beach has its usual collection of outstanding, consistent-winner programs.
That’s not the only 7-on-7 passing tournament happening Saturday. The Seahawk Shootout at Ocean View has plenty of strong teams, too, and is especially Orange County-heavy.
The Battle At The Beach teams are Capistrano Valley, San Diego Cathedral Catholic, Corona Centennial, Corona del Mar, Edison, JSerra, Bakersfield Liberty, San Diego Lincoln, Long Beach Poly, Los Alamitos, Millikan, Mission Viejo, Oaks Christian, Orange Lutheran, Palos Verdes, Santa Margarita, St. John Bosco and Servite.
Mission Viejo beat Mission Hills in last season’s Battle At The Beach gold division championship game. It was the Diablos’ second consecutive “Battle” championship.

The Seahawk Shootout at Ocean View has 32 teams in it. They are Aliso Niguel, Calvary Chapel, Capistrano Valley Christian, Carson, Cerritos, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Downey, El Toro, Foothill, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, La Mirada, La Serna, Los Amigos, Marina, Mary Star, Northview, Northwood, Ocean View, Pacifica, Paloma Valley, San Clemente, San Pedro, San Juan Hills, Santa Fe, Segerstrom, South Gate, St. Margaret’s, Tesoro, Torrance and Cerritos Valley Christian.
The 32 teams are divided into eight pools. After pool play is completed the top teams are divided into four divisions – Open, Gold, Silver and Grey – for championship rounds.
The Seahawk Shootout starts at 8:30 a.m. Spectator admission is $5 for ages 13 and older; 12 and under are admitted free. Parking is free at all school lots.
Local restaurants will provide food for sale at the snack bar. Cash and electronic payments are accepted.
Ocean View is the site of a lineman competition on Friday starting at 4 p.m. Twenty-four teams will be represented. The linemen competition concludes with tug of war.
