A waterfront Newport Beach estate on one of guard-gated Linda Isle’s largest parcels is on the market for $69.998 million.

Spanning 9,179 square feet across two stories plus a basement level, the modern residence features five bedrooms, eight bathrooms and an open floor plan. Records show a family trust purchased the property for $9.5 million in September 2009.

Builders took the existing house down to the studs before expanding and completing a rebuild in 2024 “with the intention of creating both a beach residence and a gallery-style home where they could display a significant portion of their art collection while accommodating their yacht,” said Kyle Wade of Luxe Real Estate, who shares the listing with Paul Daftarian.

While Wade did not identify the seller, a Newport Beach building permit identifies biotech billionaire Ming Hsieh as the owner, and the property is held in a trust bearing his name. Hsieh is chairman and chief executive officer of Fulgent Genetics and founded Cogent Systems, which he sold to 3M for $943 million in August 2010.

At roughly one-third of an acre, the property is unusually large for Linda Isle. The horseshoe-shaped island’s average residential lot spans about 6,400 square feet (around 0.15 acres). According to the listing, the estate commands 104 feet of waterfront and includes a private dock that can simultaneously accommodate a 130-foot yacht and a 70-foot vessel, or multiple smaller boats.

Wade said multiple listing service data from the last 26 years show only about four Newport Beach homes with private dock configurations capable of accommodating vessels exceeding 100 feet have changed hands. He said the closest comparable property sold for $16 million in September 2014.

Making the most of its location, the home’s design showcases clean horizontal lines, expansive terraces and upper-level balconies.

A soaring two-story entry gallery opens to a staircase that rises to an upper-level mezzanine. Gleaming white terrazzo flooring spans the open-concept layout, drawing the eye toward the rear of the residence, where the floor-to-ceiling Fleetwood glass doors disappear into the walls, connecting the main living spaces to the waterfront.

Throughout the interior, natural materials like hand-chiseled limestone, Calacatta-style marble, mother-of-pearl mosaics and pebblestone complement custom lighting and built-in details.

In the gourmet kitchen, an island of stained walnut cabinetry contrasts with white perimeter cabinets, white countertops and professional-grade appliances.

The kitchen flows into a great room, where distinct living and dining areas share the open-concept space.

Upstairs, accessible by elevator or staircase, the primary suite includes a fireplace in the bedroom and skylights in the spa-inspired bathroom with a freestanding soaking tub and a frameless glass shower enclosure.

A California Coastal Commission document describes the basement as a luxury entertainment lounge, though the listing agents declined to elaborate on its amenities.

While the asking price excludes the artwork and yacht, buyers can negotiate to purchase them separately outside escrow. Earlier this year, Hsieh listed his 154-foot yacht, Ocean Dreamwalker III, for £22.8 million, or roughly $26 million.
