A 24-year-old man was located by a marine safety team off Crescent Bay Beach after being reported missing nearly an hour earlier by the friend he was swimming with. The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Laguna Beach dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call at 7:28 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, about the missing swimmer, Marine Safety Chief Kai Bond said.
Lifeguards and crews from Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, the United States Coast Guard and an Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter all responded to the area to begin the search, Bond said.

At 8:13 p.m., the swimmer was located by the city’s Marine Safety dive team and taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.

The man’s name is being withheld by authorities at this time.
This is the second drowning off Laguna Beach this summer.
